O’Neils in Soho have been doing this for years. Not sure why it’s suddenly big news. Shame cos it was a great pub with live music a lot of tourists. Had a few good nights there over the years.

I know its not really the same thing but it reminds me of a bar I went to in New York about 12 years ago called Exchange (I believe it is now closed). It was a stock exchange themed bar where the prices of everything fluctuated according to demand and there was a stock exchange style ticker above the bar tracking the prices of the different drinks.

I think there's one in Barcelona - quite a nifty idea.
I think both examples would be illegal in Scotland- as I understand it prices need to be held for 78 hours (no happy hours etc) so we'll be safe from the price gauging.

Correct.
Initially the law was changed to prevent pound a drink nights, happy hours, incentivising doubles etc but in this instance it will protect the consumer if such a practice becomes commonplace.

Is it the one on Wardour Street? Had some "interesting" nights in there too. 🍺

Looking at their website, they are open until 3am every day, which in Soho is a winner. I can't imagine other clubs etc wanting them to charge ' day ' prices
after midnight so I wonder if pressure was put on them even though they are part of a big chain ?
Just a thought...

The rules around doubles seem to vary place to place, or maybe there aren't, as some places double the price and some just seem to add a seemingly arbitrary amount.
As for £1 nights - I remember (vaguely :greengrin ) the £1 drinks just having to last for 3 nights in a row (an offer still on the go at the Hive I believe, can't imagine the state of the spirit they serve up for that price...).

Was in Spoons George St after derby. Double AU Vodka was more expensive than 2 singles 🙄

I worked in Glasgow for 3 months in about the year 2000, Bonkers wasn't named that for nothing, without doubt one of the craziest places I've ever set foot in

I remember coming back from the evening racing at Ayr in about 1995 (was staying through there and working at Cowglen) and we wandered in to there just as Right Said Fred were about to start a live set! 😳

Stereo was the same, until establishment folded and they doubled the prices! Both long gone now.

Did they have purchase limits on the offer, or work on a go slow from 9:45? :greengrin
I was in a bar in Birmingham earlier in the year that had a cocktail deal that ended at 9pm. Went to the bar at 8:45, 1 server who was taking an age to do anything (it was a quiet hotel bar) and he didn't serve me until after 9. :boohoo:

No purchase limits. Once at about 9.50 pm. I bought a round. It was a minimum of 10 bottles. Put the bottles on the table, then for some reason I leaned on the table. Spilt the lot🙄

Is there the slightest possibility you may have had a bottle or two to drink prior to this horrible incident!?

For a very short period of time (got to be around 2003/2004) Gaia on King Stables Road done £20 (I think) on the door and all drinks inside were free. The con was they only had two or three people on the bars for the whole club. Think that got shut down pretty quickly.

Always some horrific spirits that were probably concocted in a shed, not that it mattered.
As I got a little older I think I used to buy beers or VKs for a still ridiculously cheap amount.

The Ark after work on a Friday was the scene of two of my greatest achievements in life
1) pissed and see my pal on the dance floor, thought it would be funny to jump on his back, cover his eyes and shout guess who, turns out it wasnt my pal and the guy didnt look a thing like him, took some talking to get away with
2) go straight after work on a Friday, have one pint, my pal says we are going somewhere else but before we leave we should have a drinking game of see who can drink a glass of straight vodka the fastest
I said fine I will go buy them but had a master plan as I don't like vodka, I got him a straight vodka but myself a lemonade in the same sized glass
1,2,3 go, we both down our drinks but the gas in the lemonade catches my throat and I spew my load in the middle of the Ark about 5.30
We go to the next bar and I can't get served as my pal tells the barman I've just spewed my load and he thinks I'm pissed but I've only had a pint that probably isnt even in my bloodstream
27 or so years later he still doesn't know it was lemonade that made me spew

VKs!
They take me back.
I remember getting a taxi up the road after a student night when I was up in Dundee (a taxi home used to cost about £3). VK had been on offer in Mardi Gras nightclub and I’d been filling my boots.
The taxi driver was commenting on the strength of the smell coming off me “it’s no that bad, ye jist smell like an ice pole”.
No idea how I remember having a conversation in what must have been some state but that one stuck in my mind as having been quite funny.
I don’t think I could stomach the taste of something like that now, let alone the reek of it off someone in my car.

Ive got a ****ing hangover just reading this thread 🤮
To think what I put down my neck as a youngster is ****ing scary, I say as a youngster because I used to go to secondary school, or I skived school when being ill from a hangover, sad but true.
I reined it in a bit when I started my first job at 16 but a year later it was every Friday and Saturday night sesh fest and more. I stopped drinking on Sundays so I could be semi fresh for work and it came to the point it was every Friday and Saturday nights until I got married at 22 and that slowed me down, for better or for worse as the saying goes, the former most definitely in that instance.
Thankfully now I barely touch the stuff and it was 12 weeks ago since I had a bottle of 0% Corona. This thread though gives me good reason to remain sober 😃
