We had 3 loan players, we had 3 out of contract players in the summer, and a player who appears to have a bad attitude, in our starting eleven.
We have a bench of players, that might not be here at the end of the season.
This situation, has happened before, with a collapse to Hamilton in a play off, who would back the current squad, to win 2 playoff games.
First thing we should do, is get an experienced good reliable goalkeeper in.
Thats at least a start.
We aren’t to good to get relegated.

Logan, Gunnarson, Henderson, Stokes.
It's more to do with quality, coaching, and mentality than it is the modality of a player's contract with the club IMO.
Do get your point, though.

Agree the loanees go back to there clubs play pre season games then shipped out on loan again you'd think club learned after Fenlons side in final don't think it's good to have to many loan signings

You say that but we had a chunk of loan players when we lifted the cup.
That squad that lost the 2012 cup final was also made up of raft of loan players (Doherty, Francomb, Soares, O'Donovan, Claros to name but a few). Imagine we'd won the cup with that lot.

Dundee Utd are 4th in the table with half a team of loanees. 4 started again at the weekend.
9 of their starting 11 signed this season.
It’s about signing the right players and getting them playing well.
Loans can be a great thing.

That’s why I still have optimism about this season. They’re 4th and imo look really poor
Good manager in and let’s see what happens

I’m not writing off this season yet, plenty games to go.
A competent manager, getting the team drilled and organised could make a huge difference. Get to January, new keeper in. Attacking mid in.
I certainly wouldn’t put money on us finishing 4th, but top 6 is still possible.

We have regularly relied on the loan market to save our season. Maolidas goals kept us out of the doodoo last year, the singings of Allan, Kamberi and McLaren took us to a different level, loanees in the cup final team. It's not a new thing, it's more about how they are deployed.

Unfortunately this time around I don’t think our loan players are very good.
Thats the difference, these are guys that you woudnt really care if they went back.
Especially the goalkeeper.

I wonder what our best contracted team is?

Janaury though, loanees that have come in and really made an impact are usually signed then, certainly the ones I've mentioned.
Agree the ones we have at the moment are not of a standard.

I would expect loaned players, to be players that are outwith our price range, and should be able to play at a higher level.
I don’t see that in any of them.
We also have another loan player who was banned, and looks poor as well, he never looks like he’s going to score.

We could have a thread about the many out of contract players.
But it would fill me with dread, HTC. Can’t be a great environment at the moment .

How uncommon is it for clubs at our financial level, and below, to have a squad full of folk going out of contract season on season? It must be pretty normal

Yip players come and go that’s true, but how many of our current squad or loan players, would you want to build a team around.
Also usually the out of contract players, would be fighting for a new contract, many of our players have been told they aren’t getting a contract already.
Take McKirdy he’s out of contract , why is he even in the squad, he’s not going to get a contract, because he is one of the worst forwards, to ever play for hibs.
Dean clelland scores goals every week in the under 18s , surely you would be better playing him the last 10 minutes.
Hes to young, but at least you are starting to build towards a new squad .

This. Good development for Dean (and any others that break into the matchday squad). McKirdy's a waste of a jersey. Done nothing down on loan at Swindon last season.

These out of contract players should be busting a gut for a new deal, when can players talk to other clubs? January? End up with a starting 11 full of loans and players leaving for other clubs.
Not good at all.

Quality, mentality and good coaching, we lack all 3.
