What has he brought to Hibs as a director of football? He’s seemingly not involved in the recruitment of David Gray as manager but said he was the outstanding candidate for the post. He is an anonymous enigma. Thoughts?

Whatever he was brought in to do, clearly hasn't worked as we are now worse than when he arrived.

Was discussing that today, no one seems to know exactly what he does, or what he's responsible for. Says nothing and doesn't seem to do much.

I thought he was involved in the appointment?
To put it bluntly - he can GTF and he can take his chum McPherson too.

Too busy giving interviews saying how ***** and imbalanced the squad is and that next summer is the big one.

Its not a Malky problem, he doesn't carry the can for me. He has walked into this culture, the bad decision making was being carried out long before he was ever in. Example to give JDH a contract extension after 1 good game. If Malky took interim charge and won 5 in a row we would all be loving him.

It is a strange position at a club.
In theory they should be a constant who stays in place despite the coaching and playing staff changing when needed and should be driving the overall direction of the football side of things.
However, if they ate actually setting the tone, signing the players, hiring the coaches etc then they are directly responsible.
So, hard to see why they would survive and the coaching team don’t.
For what it’s worth I don’t think he will be here long.

Not much of an improvement on McDermott then.

And who is behind the goalkeeper recruitment...not only has our current number 1 had a "tricky" start..but his back signed in the summer has barely played in the last few years. Unbelievable for such an important position..

I’m amazed that people seem to lay the blame at Malky Makays door. He’s been in for 6 months, is he expected to have fixed 6 years of mis management in that time?? Why is Brian McDermott not taking his share of the blame - notice he’s not reared his head much….
The issues are 100% in the management of the club since Ian Gordon and Ben Kensell took over. Recruitment has been a shambles and we’ve wasted millions of pounds on players we will never recoup money for.
Malky Makay should be 100% responsible for signing players, that’s the job of a director of football - the problem is he’s not fully responsible for this. This manager, previous managers and importantly Ian Gordon have all had a significant input to player recruitment. You can’t blame Makay for others mistakes.
If Makay had full autonomy then fair enough but over the last 2-3 years we’re not far off the Romanov situation where the owner is playing football manager with our club.

If Malky takes interim charge there will be very few left to see it.
He's come in to run the football club that you'd have thought could only go up yet he's made a bad managerial appointment and he's given him a poorer squad than what he finished the season with.
He's shown nothing in the past that he can do this job so why do we risk giving him another window?
He'll get it of course but IMO it's one of the biggest mistakes the Gordon's and Kensell have made.

100% agree 👍 get these two out our club. That would be a start.
McPherson appointed his racist pal and sacked Franck in a previous life. He has no credit left.

Brian McDermott was in a year and got emptied about 5 months ago so I’d wager that’s why he’s taking no blame.

Don’t worry, we’ll probably get a HibsTV interview with Malky in a day or two and no doubt it’ll be just as full of **** as everything else recently.

I’m starting to wonder if Gray even got interviewed for the job or was just given it. There was zero names going around at the time about other candidates.

Weird pattern of well known experienced people taking senior positions then leaving
Steve Kean
Brian McDermott
Are they taking one look at the club then getting out ASAFP ?

Didn't want him anywhere near the club to begin with and I've seen nothing concrete in his time here they does anything other than reinforce that feeling

We do seem to be dropping very close to conspiracy theories around Hibs! Maybe we are just a not very well run club 🤣

Was McPherson a snake back in Alex McLeish days when he was in the same role or is just this time when we are playing badly?

It’s all very Budge/Levein.
We couldn’t find anyone else so gave it to Gray.
We then pretended he gave a 90 min presentation to Mackay who was so blown away by it that the offer was made.
Now that it’s all gone wrong, Mackay is distancing himself from it and leave Gray to take the fall.

I had face to face dealings with him back in 1999/ 2000 when I found him down to earth and approachable but people change and my opinion of people can also change.
Hope that answers your question.

In hindsight Brian McDermott was open and honest about his role, he was to come in and 'just give some advice' he was no Director of Football. One of the biggest wastes of time and money I think this club has had. All because it kept Lee Johnson happy.

He signed the goalies, whom some on here said would help get us relegated, given how poor they both are.
The only slack you can cut him is he’s probably working to a brief that dictates bringing in cheap crap as makeshift signings until we “transition” into the January window where a couple of loan signings make everything right again. .

Totally confused how this guy is still here!!!!! Outstanding at what ? He Stating the obvious that the squad is bloated, unbalanced and not of the standard required, sheer genius.
So the solution, add more sub standard players to the bloated squad, the **** hits the fan and we are bottom of the league and the chat is all about next summers clear out and lets wave the white flag and get a professional in from Bournemouth to clear up the mess and say its your idea.
So we now have Sporting Director, Technical Director and now Recruitment analyst Director we are behaving like we are Real Madrid.
When is this going to end, the Golden Quadrant have made us a laughing stock.
League position couldn't be any worse
Squad has no market value
Squad is massive
Zero player development
Bloated Directors

Disagree, Malky is not one of the main reasons we are in this mess. The reason we are in the mess we are in is because we have the spoilt son of a successful businessman running us who has shown he is incompetent time and time again.
We have signed close to 70 players over the last 3 years. Very few made an impact. The loan players last season kept our heads above water.
The board evidently never learnt from the failed Maloney experiment by appointing Gray. We could have gotten away with Maloney or Gray (like an inexperienced John Collins in 2006) had we already had a solid squad and infrastructure.
Since Ross left the club has been on a downward trajectory. The only bit of business we did in this period was buy Melkersen and sell him on for a profit. That's simply not good enough for a club like ours.

When McDermott was here I think some of the criticism was pretty similar - that nobody was very clear about what his role involved and that we didn't hear much from him. So not much has changed in that regard.
