Is this team as bad as Terry Butchers hibs?

I genuinely think they are worse. Both woeful. But maybe because it’s more recent I might have forgotten how bad that hibs team was.

Butcher’s team was brutal but they tended to create chances - they just missed them all. That Killie game on the final day of the regular season was a joke.

We’ve hardly created any sustained pressure or chances since Johnson left - and we rarely did it under him while against 11 players.

That can’t be right. People have been telling us on here we play well and are the better team almost every week.

That squad has much less quality but ultimately downed tools. This team on paper is better but I'd argue it's not as much as others might think. Unfortunately though this team hasn't downed tools and is trying and still can't find a win. As a result at this time it's worse.

Comfortably worse for me, not even capitalising on the fear of losing the first goal being removed. Seems to be working the other way as well this time around.

The problem then was the fans got on the players backs big time to the point were it almost looked like the players couldnt care if we stayed up.
We dont want to get into that situation again.
As it stands thats the way we’re going.

I thought we told a load of the players they were leaving the club so loads just give it up.

The Butcher team was brutal, but they were more direct and that at least allowed them to create some effective chances even if the finishing was woeful. Where as this team try to over complicate things on the ball, making it too easy for the opposition to simply stand their ground and wait to regain the ball back before breaking. This team is less effective in attack, even if it's more passy passy.

Yes we did which was a major mistake.
However they would have put in the effort for the supporters im sure if we backed the team instead what actually happened

We have a squad full of spineless, lazy ****ks who don't give a ***** about the club. They've no pride and even less ability.

Softest club in the world from top to bottom and EVERYBODY knows it!!!!!!

Butchers team had better players, he just refused to play the likes of Mcpake and Thomson who would have ran through a brick wall in those final 5 games of that season.

Butcher would have this team doing better than Gray is. Never thought id say that about any Hibs manager.

Liam Craig arrives at Hibs and 2014 we get relegated.

Liam Craig returns to Hibs in 2024....

I would say they are probably worse tbh. It’s 6 and half a dozen really and at least we have a manager we like instead of a crusty old Hun but yeah, I reckon we are at least ad bad as 2014.

Not convinced. Butcher's team was terrible - Michael Nelson, Tudar Jones, McGivern, Vine, Fraser Mullen, Danny Haynes, Taiwo, Handling etc We actually had a Keeper, Ben Williams, that is miles better than this year though. Butcher's team was always going to struggle but when he said most wouldn't be there the year after they stopped playing for him. There are players who could work harder in the current team imo but I think it may be as much about confidence as attitude

Take your point but all those players are looked back on as awful due to us being relegated. We go down this season and in 10 years we will be listing off Joe Newell, Dylan Levitt, Harry McKirdy, Rocky Bushiri, Joe Bursik, Warren O’Hora, Lewis Miller etc. in the same way.

We just like to think the current crop are better as they are the here and now instead of a painful memory. One day they will be remembered the same way 2014 crop currently are.

Nah. Our keeper has chucked in quite a few. Williams saved us quite a few times in the Butcher season. It was horrible hoofball, we were getting dominated by every other team in the league after we got to the end of February. Think we got beat at home by Dundee Utd and it was all downhill from then on. Williams even saved a pen in that game.

Something I recall from the Butcher relegation was, as we lost game after game, there were posters not onlyon here, but other forums too, who would scoff at the idea of relegation because they firmly believed the players we had then were basically too good to be relegated and that we were over reacting to bad result after bad result…

It appeared in their minds that the thought of relegation was, in their minds, unthinkable.

I’d hate to see them fall into the same trap.

Butchers captain was brought back to the club. That, in itself, was a disgrace. Watching him and Eddie May waddling about the pitch during the warm up (and playing stupid wee games before the players came out like who could get the ball closest to the cone) sums up our coaching staff.

Since the Butcher days the quality of SPFL teams and players has gone down big time. Our current squad may be worse than Butcher's but the opposition now is far worse too.

There is no way our current squad should be bottom of this league. St Mirren, Ross County, Dundee United, St Johnstone are absolutely honking.

Get a decent Manager in and we'll finish comfortably above those 4 sides.

Goalie - abysmal.

Defence - full backs who can’t defend and one decent centre half.

Midfield - no combination of them gels together

Out wide - a past it Boyle, and others that don’t score or create enough.

Strikers - barn door, banjo.

Bench - may contain traces of JDH and Harry McKirdy.

It’s not a combination for anything other than 12th. The squads that took Hearts and Dundee United down were a lot better than this.
