Just got a real big surprise looking at the league table.

Our defense has conceded 16 goals, which is actually LESS than...

Hearts
St Johnstone
Kilmarnock
Ross County
St Mirren
Dundee

If you'd told me that before checking I'd have said no chance we have conceded less that all those teams. Throw in the fact that the only better two defensive teams Motherwell and Dundee United are only 3 goals better off than us in the Against column

So as much as we need to cut out these late goals, the real problem seems not so much to be the defensive, but more up top. We have scored LESS than all the teams mentioned above bar Ross County who we are level on the scoring charts with.

We really need to be doing better at putting chances away. Bowie getting injured was a real sickener. Hopefully Gayle is fit for this weekend and can kick start the goal trail for us because we need to be converting so many more than we have.

It’s still something like 1.46 goals per game and for a team who can’t create anything to have to score 2 goals a game to win one it isn’t that great.

That being said yesterday was nothing to do with the defence. Who all played well.

We do have one of the better goals conceded in the league, we also have the worst in goals scored.

Did see a few people saying if games ended in 80 minutes then we would be up there which is another stat.

Defence has been good the past few games with big Marv starting to get a good bit of praise from fans, it's the last minutes or so and stupid individual errors.

Yep, agree with that. A second goal when on top yesterday would have meant the late penalty had no bearing on the result

So much emphasis has been put on our defence but the real issue lies in our attack. When we are able to keep 11 players on the pitch, we have actually been very tight defensively.

Goals conceded per 90 minutes when XI v XI* since Triantis debut
Celtic 0.4
Hibs 0.8
Rangers 1.0
Ross County 1.1
Aberdeen 1.2
Dun Utd 1.3
Hearts 1.4
Dundee 1.6
Killie 1.7
St Mirren 1.7
Motherwell 2.3
St Johnstone 2.6

*This includes Dun Utd’s goal on Sunday as Myko being off the pitch had no bearing on the goal being conceded.

I dont think it's a secret that we just dont create many clear cut chances, we dont have to lose too many goals to get beaten or draw when we dont score many.

I think the 2 central defenders are both good signings and Iredale looks good too . And all 3 still with many years of football ahead of them . Not Beckanbaur or Blackley but good solid defenders with their best years to come . And I don`t think that`s accepting mediocrity as some will say . It`s accepting reality of the standard of players any non OF team can attract in Scotland .

Yep, it's an easy take for the media that we just can't defend when the problems for me are far more about lack of creativity and an inability to manage games. Really feel for Marv as I think he's been excellent for a good while now but it's not really recognised amidst the noise. Pundits saying our centre halfs are "not strong enough" is a telltale sign for me that they're not actually really watching our games, just jumping on the narrative.

You only have to watch the goals that St Johnstone or Killie conceded at the weekend to realise it's far from just us.

The 2014 team were relegated because they couldn't score.

The defence has improved massively since the start of the season. Gray stuck with his defence and gave them time. Look much better organised and should be celebrating 2 clean sheets on the trot.
