Needs to start the next game

I know people don’t like the look of him on paper etc, look at some of the other goalies in the SPFL careers

He can’t be any worse than bursik and from the clips I’ve saw actually looks able to make a save

https://youtu.be/K45aMj1IXdA?si=MsiSAA-H1xTvonvw

Something needs to change in that back line.

Bursik and miller out and then Smith and jesus even Rocky or O’Hora right back and bring in Iredale

Probably get shot down again though a part from the one time Bursik came for the ball and didn’t get anything on it , did he do much more wrong today?

I don’t think he did actually but he has had some clangers the last few weeks so I definitely don’t rate him. I can’t see him being benched midweek so imagine Smith will have to wait longer

He must be pretty poor

First half he came for a cross, missed and punched our player in the process

First half he saved Shanklands shot, should have been routine but he almost palmed it up and over his head into the net

Second half Mackay played a throwball which he somehow spilled out and conceded a corner

From that corner he then done a pretty poor and unconvincing punch which lead to the throw where they scored

The ball he spilled which gave away possession in the phase before their goal?

The lettuce wrists save from shankland which looped up over him.

His overall lack of composure which just creates panic stations whenever the ball comes into the box

He must be horrendous in training to not even get a look in.

It all leads back to the recruitment issues. 2 keepers who appear to not be good enough is extremely worrying

Thanks T and I agree he has made mistakes , just thought I missed something as the only one I could remember was the one he came for but didn’t get.

He might not be the long term answer, in fact I’m pretty sure he won’t be, but he deserves the opportunity to show he can help in the short term. Continuing with Bursik is madness.

Got pretty annoyed listening to Gray talk about players keeping doing the same things when he’s doing the same things himself.

Nothing, though prepare yourself for some rubbish outlandish reasons for their goal that is somehow down to our keeper

He's not played a league game since 2019. That's brutal. But who knows, Bursik gives almost everyone the fear so lord knows what Smith does or doesn't do in training to not be getting a sniff

Gave away a corner just before their goal with comical handling. I doubt O'hora thought much about this either

Amazed some people miss key incidents

Campbell last week for second goal

Bursik giving away corner this week

Open your eyes it’s not a crime on football to say who cost your team points / goals

It’s possible to miss a couple of key incidents in a match for other reasons than having your eyes closed …

So we are blaming him for the goal because he gave away a corner even though the goal came from a throw in ? Seems harsh to me that one ! .

I'm not blaming him for anything. He made a few mistakes and the goal came in a completely different passage of play. He has looked shaky though in recent games and given teh nervousness in our ranks it would have been great to call another Keeper into the 11. I think Smith is worse though but at some point Gray will need to make a call

Smith has played 3 league games in the last 5 years.
What could possibly go wrong?

I thought you were blaming him for the goal .. apologies

I remember the one he came for and didn’t get though generally I thought he came for a few today and got them .. the Shankland effort admittedly only seeing it the once I thought had power in it and thought the ball was spinning. Might be wrong on that .

Plenty but then again the defence look a bag of nerves so we need to change something. Conrad Logan hadn't played the season we signed him. Smith played a decent number of games in teh Championship so you would think there has to be something there. I've only seen him in Friendlies and he didn't fill me with confidence but then again neither does Bursik

Smith has played a few less Championship games than Bursik.
Season 2017/18 was the only one of his career where he played regular league level football and he will be 30 in less than 6 weeks.

Season 2017/18 was the last time Smith played regular football.

This is so damning of our recruitment when apparently we'd moved beyond the madness. To think early doors in the window we brought these two guys in (with barely a handful of games in recent years between them) to compete for the number one spot really beggars belief. We were willing to spend a million on McCowan, while settling on Bursik on loan for arguably the most important position on the park.

It's clearly not the only reason we are where we are (where do you start) but it's so indicative of the issues. Great, a clearout next summer but surely the cycle just continues without fundamental change.

When the recruitment was taking place in the summer I could see the logic of all the business other than the keepers* who were both obviously weaker than the players they were replacing. It would have made sense if they had signed a strong No1 keeper with Smith brought in to fanny about in the background but to bring in two half baked keepers was madness.
* not bringing in cover at left back for Obita was the other daft omision in the summer. Free agent Iredale could be that man.

Don’t trust either keeper.

The big question is what do the coaches think of them.

They have 2 months and then January window opens - will they fix their mistake and bring in another keeper or just keep what we have till end of the season.

It is not harsh it is ridiculous to blame him a few more culpable Hibs players much more at fault. A long throw and Allan Forrest gets a flick on ffs
