View Full Version : Ross County away - build up thread

GreenCastle

Another Derby - feels like a (another) missed opportunity and 2 points dropped. Hearts may have had more possession but Hibs had the better opportunities and chances to win the game. Many were predicting a large defeat or loss but many left the stadium feeling like we should have won. Losing late goals is becoming a bad habit though and we can’t keep doing that and expecting to win games.

We move onto Ross County away on Wednesday night. Not long to recover but a very important game at a difficult venue.

We have to remember Hibs only have 1 away league win in 2024 - that’s a really poor record.

Hibs are still bottom of the table on 6 points but have a game in hand over Hearts.

Hibs sit on 6 points from 9 games - only 1 win in 9 games and one clean sheet. Hibs haven’t won in last 4 games with 3 defeats and a draw.

Ross County beat Kilmarnock on Saturday - Killie got a player sent off which obviously changed the game.

Ross County don’t lose many at home - they have lost to Aberdeen and Celtic this season at home this season only. 4th best home record in league but have played 6 matches. Hale is their top scorer with 4 goals.

Ross County won the last game against Hibs 2-1 in May. The game before was a draw in March and a Hibs win at Easter Road.

Hibs haven’t won away to Ross County since November 2022 (4 away matches).

In last 18 away games to Ross County since 2010 - Hibs have won 6 games and County have won 8 games and 4 draws.

Ross County 2nd lowest goals this season - 10 (which is 1 in front of Hibs 9 goals). They have conceded 18 which is 3rd highest though lost 6-0 against the Huns.

Newell will be available against after suspension. I don’t think we have any other injury issues - we may see the return of the Caddens?

Will be interesting to see what team we start with. Would imagine Gray will drop Youan and start Newell and move Hoilett wide. I would love if we get Myko and Gayle on pitch at same time but it’s finding the balance behind that. County play a 3-5-2 so maybe we match them up ?

Another important game - again not really bothered how we play just need points on the board to get away from bottom of the league.

Fair play to any fans attending midweek - hopefully give the team a good backing.

Over to you Hibs - what have you got in store for us this week!

Got a good feeling about the game, I think for the most part we have been playing decently and creating chances. It’s just about keeping the individual errors to a minimum.

1-3 Hibs.

Few things also just looked at…

Earliest goal this season is 43 mins into a game. We haven’t scored many in first half.

We rarely seem to hold onto a lead for more than 20 mins.

St J the obvious exception when we won.

Would be nice to get an early goal but at same time we need to stop conceding so many - crosses into the box - long throws / quick free kicks - last minute penalties - our game management must improve or find better players in January who can see games out.

If we don't have another recognised right back and Gray wants to stick with 4 at the back.

How about sticking Triantis at right back and Newell in midfield now that his suspension is over.

It’s a must win for SDG.

Feel like I’ve been calling every Hibs game on 2024 a must win in the lead up to it. The next one always is because we have actually won so rarely.

Loads of talk about Gray needing a result but forget him, I don’t want to be coming back down the A9 at that time of night on the back of another defeat!

Never an easy place to win and the 2 teams at the top have struggled to win there recently . We `ve had terrible luck with ref decisions on recent visits too . Looking at the table , a win could see us climb as high as 9th ( obviously nothing to celebrate but would mean beating DU next weekend could mean top 6 after third of pre split fixtures ) so would be a great time to get first away win .

Looking at the table it’s mad to see Ross County and St J sitting on 10 points and in 6th and 7th.

This is why we keep talking about wins and putting runs together - something this team has to start to do.

The league is ridiculously tight and the next 6 games are like cup finals before we play Celtic.

Livi had 10 points after 8 games(they lost their ninth game) last season and only 13 points after 25 games. They started the season off fine and were in 9th position at this point last year. A win of against us of course helped.

I always feel like Hibs and Ross County gets totally mental scheduling. In the last 10 years I remember us playing them on Christmas Eve/Boxing day at least twice (both home and away).

Even since the start of the 21/22 season if we include tonights game we've played them Saturday 3pm only five times versus a midweek kick-off six times. I know someone has to play them Wednesday at eight o'clock but surely we must be their most regular midweek opponents at this rate?

Would be interested to know the last time the Old Firm were sent up that way on cold winter nights or how often they ever are but maybe I'm just paranoid.

Just madness isn't it? Considering there both Dundee teams, Aberdeen and St Johnston all significantly closer than we are, surely it isn't beyond the thinking of the league to have more local teams play each other midweek?

I agree, once in a while is fine. And actually as bad as the trip can be at times the novelty of it if you haven't done it for years can be enticing. But we're at the point where both us and them are having to do it at least once a season each, it's like things must be equal or something.

I remember back around 2012/13 we went up to them on Boxing Day and then the league paid us back by sending them to us the next year. It's just weird especially considering both those seasons Inverness were in the league for them to play.

However the other side of me is starting to worry now, again some big decisions he has made that will come crashing down on his head if it doesn't work out tonight. Might change my forecast to a 0-0 draw!

Worrying times indeed.

Bursik selected again…..unbelievable

I so want gray to succeed but selections like this will get him sacked
We are short of competent options ALL OVER the park. Recruitment recruitment recruitment!

Bursik and Miller make mistakes - stay in 11

Kwon has been one of our better players but dropped. Tired or a knock surely?

JDH bizarrely gets back in the squad, comes on against hearts and then dropped completely

Campbell dropped completely last game but back in tonight

NMW comes on last game and now dropped completely?

It just seems so random to me

He needs to pick two for the midfield and stick with it

There’s far too much chopping and changing in the side every week.

It never works

It just seems so random to meI might be wrong but maybe Gray is blaming NMW as one of the players who didn't do their job at the hearts goal

The same way he clocked JC having a nightmare at tannadice and bombed him

Or he has a knock/is ill - could just ask easily be that [emoji1787]

Agreed and should be Triantis and Kwon for me. Guessing Kwon mustn’t be fully fit or he'd be starting. Been our best midfielder this season.

Who is his alternative to Bursik? Most people think all other goalies or worse, so what should he do?

Would be very selective management if he’s willing to drop them for that but continue to play others who have made worse!

The goalie and defence have been costing us but remains unchanged!

He has very little options there though - if C Cadden was fit id think he wouldve came in for Miller

I personally wouldn't drop Marv and to a lesser extent Ohora

It's beyond baffling why he persists with Miller. He is one of the worst I've seen play right back. Keeper the same however appreciate he has nobody else to choose really that's an upgrade.

Kwon being dropped is weird as well. Have to admit if we lose tonight I honestly think it's time up for SDG.. Hope I'm wrong as hate the revolving door we have but we seriously make some daft selection decisions.

I fail to believe that Murray Johnson is an inferior goalkeeper to Bursik.

Crazy he was sent out on loan.

Same goes for Megwa when Miller always plays.

Not sign worse goalies than Bursik in the first place

Newell straight back in has annoyed me as well

It shouldn’t be the case

I’d argue both triantis (maybe apart from game v hearts) and Kwon have both been better than him

I’m with you. Would hate to see him go but games which we would normally have a good chance of winning are passing us by and we can’t let it continue much longer. Hopefully 3pts tonight

He’s been due us a big performance for a while nowI'm trying to be diplomatic as we are playing tonight and he's been selected.

I actually reached the end of my tether with the last sending off. I was hoping not to see him straight back in as kwon and triantis appear marginally better

My only issue with leaving Newell out was that we seen what Kwon/Triantis can do against Hearts and it didn't involve anything like keeping hold of the ball or playing any type of passing game.
