My bet came in. Triantis and Devlin to get booked, both teams to score.
The only part of the bet in doubt was whether we would score or not.
(Would obviously rather the bet never came in but if we’re looking for positives)

Ekpiteta. Going under the radar how solid he's been. Still not great ball at feet and went too long at times. Don't mind it, let others play. He's a real solid defender. Won everything in the air. Dominated Shankland and 2 moments of danger, Vargas in, Shanlkand in, Marv there. Not getting credit he deserves from the dodgy first impressions.

Aw behave, we hardly played any football. The only tactic was get it to the front men by any means necessary.

The 1st half of the 2nd half was when we were "best".
1st half we actually had the better chances but back to front hoooooooofball was a grim watch. We had 2 central midfielders that offered for the ball half as often as their number 18

Thought we had a few good moves , also went long at times too .
Probably should have had scored more in Gayles chances and Triantis one if it wasn’t offside.
As to Miller and their goal the thread title is “ positives from today “ and not the negatives . Now if it was I’d have probably brought both points up .

I didn’t. I genuinely thought we were alright and as someone who’s usually negative that’ll probably surprise alot of folk. Didn’t think we were hugely exciting, but I didn’t think we were any worse than hearts. A 6/10 first half for me.
How we performed after taking the lead though was appalling. Truly dreadful stuff.

It definitely could have been worse. We created some good decent chances. Restricted Hearts to fewer good chances. Some good performances. Managed not to lose. Starting line up was quite positive. I’m clutching at straws because we’re dreadful really but we maybe showed just about enough to suggest we could survive.

The positives were not losing.
Team showed a fair bit of fight,
Youan came back in and made a decent contribution.
The fans backed the team well.
Obita had a decent game, as did Hoilett.
JDH returned to the squad and he will add to the options in midfield.
Big Myko got a goal and hopefully that gives him a bit confidence. He's been looking a bit lost in recent games.
Gray showed some bravery picking such an attacking side, I felt that took a bit of courage.

Obita was great today, as was Kwon I thought. Triantis and a few other were good. For me Gayle looked off the pace and headed two clear opportunities straight at plukey. Don’t think he should start ahead of Myko. Miller brings chaos really, not all bad but we don’t play much football around him, just punt the ball stuff akin to rugby.

He’s not for me at all I’m afraid.
Defended well but he can’t kick a ball properly, there were times he just needed to pass it back to the goalie but he didn’t back himself to do so.
How can we possibly play any football when we’ve got a defender not comfortable in taking the ball and passing it into midfield? That’s really basic stuff.
I struggle to see us improving while he’s in the team, we might become less ***** than we are now but we won’t become a good team as long as we have defenders who are scared of the ball.

We learned that without a doubt our team suffers from a fear of success. If we get on top we don't believe it's our right so we retreat to our own half and wait for the opposition to score at least once without reply, generally in the last 10 minutes of regular time. Occasionally we prefer to be beaten in extra time. No other team has this happen week in, week out.
Everyone involved on the playing side needs their heads examined. There's a collective lemming-like instinct for self-sabotage and self-destruction. Apologies if I have offended any lemmings by comparing them to our players.

Despite conceding another late goal I do think that starting 11 would pick up points. Newell and Campbell should be squad players going forward. Miller and keeper the main concerns going forward.

I understand what you are saying Bingo but with respect disagree. Space for a solid defender for me and what we have missed in seasons gone by. 2 full backs, O'Hora signed as a ball playing centre half and playing 2 centre mids in a pivot. Don't need them all to play the ball, don't need two Beckenbauers. If anything midfield play Marv into more trouble by not showing. Would love 11 footballers if it included the ability to defend but nah, give me.big Marv mopping up anytime and others can play. Loads of different avenues to move the ball. Not looking to change your opinion, that's just mine. Can see it both ways mind but no nonesense defender for me in the middle I'll take all day long

Positives:
Created chances
Did not lose to them
Attacking formation, no Campbell or Newall to bog/slow down the midfield
It's glaringly obvious that we've had a p*sh midfield for 3 or more seasons, the solution may be to not play one, i'd wager with the current squad we'd do better against the poorer teams if we did

The positive is the point.
Few were predicting it after Hearts last 2 results and at no point did it look like we were in for a humping. We were dire today but we created the better chances and have walked away with a point that many would have taken pre match as much of a kick in the gut as the manner of it was.
It's further evidence that the league is rank. Hearts were 3rd last year and a club who were spoken about as having done good business leading into this season. They arguably moved the ball a bit better than us today but they had rope spells at the back and created next to nothing for 80+ minutes. They look every bit as blunt and lacking in ideas as we did. It's proof we don't need to be good to get out of this mess. If we can hit the dizzying heights of slightly above mediocre then we should be fine.

I'm not sure beyond blind faith that this 'slightly above mediocre' is all that imminent.
It really was a stinking game, and from our perspective it was worryingly evident how physically and tactically unimpressive we are.
Was it that ex-hun Waghorn who p!ssed us all off when he called Hibs 'basic' during a pre-season under Stubbs? That's all you can describe Hibs as at the moment - basic, and eventually they drop points by not doing the those basics well enough.

I never felt that we were constantly chasing and on the back foot until near the end of the game. Hearts had loads of the ball but the majority of it was their centre halves and goalie passing the ball about between themselves. It reminded me of us under Montgomery. Only changed late in the game when Gray decided to go with about 47 defensive midfielders, playing in various positions, and just invite them on.

Thought we did ok today, given all the negativity around Hibs and the over the top praise of Hearts.
We created the better chances despite their possession stats, if we’d taken one of those late ones we’d have won the game.
Fans are justifiably nervous at the moment which filters to the players on the pitch, offset that with the Jambos who were singing “Hibs are falling part” as they scramble a late goal to stay bottom of league bar goal difference yet having played more games says it all really.
Keep the faith is my mantra for now ggtth.

Actually thought the defence as a collective were fine, some good blocks and Marv especially won the physical battle.
Obita is still one of the best crossers in the league.
Myko getting a goal will be great for his confidence.
Kwon was assertive and worked his socks off, Triantis was wasteful but felt the early yellow really shackled him.
Youan looked sharper.
Hoilett was MOTM for me.
For all the criticism of Grays subs I think they all did fine, Myko the goal and JDH and NMW both got about the pitch and did ok. Certainly wasn’t their fault we lost a goal.

It’s how I saw it as well. We conceded midfield and played hoofball but we were pretty comfortable with their tippy-tippy stuff going nowhere at the back. Our problems started with Gray’s substitutions sending a clear message to Hertz that we were going backs to the wall. I think it sends a negative message to our players as well and we just ended up dropping deeper and deeper to defend.

Yip and I’d even say we were better than them , their 60 odd % possession was largely down to our press in they had nowhere to go but pass it about the back a bit like Monty had us doing ..
Think Gordon had five saves to make to Bursik’s one . We really should have finished them off today with some of the chances we had .

When it comes to derbies not losing is the top priority. Sure, it wasn't much of a game today but I'm pleased for David Gray that his side were clearly battling for him. Plenty flak still flying around and still much to be critical of at Hibs but imagine the reaction to a dismal 1-0 defeat.
