Joe Newell being suspended for next week.

If ever one individual summed up this version of Hibernian over the past four or five years, it’s this character.

Looks a bit fancy and you know they’re capable of so much more but, when it comes to the crunch, they just let you down and are found wanting.

Symbolically, to continue the theme, we reward this with an extended contract. And the captaincy.

I genuinely don’t know where we as a club go from here. Ian ****ing Gordon can take himself so far to ****. Sits and acknowledges all the mistakes he’s made and yet arrogantly ignores the advice from BKFC and appoints Mackay and by extension, SDG.

It’s mistake after mistake after mistake. And we seem to reward failure.

I genuinely think he played well today. First booking was harsh and didn’t see the second so can’t comment on it.

Careful now PH. You'll have the usual suspects along in a minute telling you that you know nothing about football if you can't see that Joe Newell is our best player.

Newell being suspended is a god send.

Also when we went to 3 at the back we did look pretty good. Think we might have stumbled on a shape that will work.

As for Newell , the guys a fraud. Nothing more to be said about him.

Newell as a captain doesn’t drive the team on for me

Plenty of times he could have been more forward thinking and time and time again it goes sideways or backwards.

Give me a captain who calls out **** for him colleague and inspires

We’re far to nice a club we really are

We have a history of making players captains who clearly never had the attributes to be a captain, regardless of whether they were a good player or not. A captain should be vocal, commanding and leading by example. We seldom have that as a captain.

That's quite an incredible statement but you are entitled to your opinion.

We seldom have players with any one of those qualities never mind all three. :D

Can’t be arsed defending him. We’re ***** with him and ***** without him. What difference does it make anymore.

True. But a club signs a player like that, makes them captain. It can filter through to the entire team. But that requires common sense and we don't seem to do common sense.

Ken it sounds daft considering we lost 3-2 but think Iredale looked good and would like to see him in the first team more.

Also thought we looked better in the 3-5-2 until Newell ****s it.

We were the only team on the park once we changed to 3-5-2. Far better going forward and playing on the front foot. Gotta be the way to go next weekend.

The only positive is it’s another game gone in a pish season. Roll on the summer.

How did Iredale get on today? Hopeful he can be a solution that allows us to drop Miller and/or Cadden.

Hard to tell with most of what he did being a hundred yards away but I didn’t think he looked great. Gives a bit balance being a lefty but we were still a calamity defensively.

One of mates thought he did well. Fairly solid. Having seen the goals you can’t blame him for the two he was on the park for. Your goalie has just absolutely made a show of himself.

Thought he done pretty well in parts seemed to get really tight to the striker at times though which I’m not sure was the smarted as Dalby was massive and a handful. Nice having a bit of balance on the left though, played out well at times and the aggressive defending worked at times too

A lot bigger than I was expecting

David Gray has better first touch than Jim Goodwin.

His backheeled effort when ball sailed into dugout was still a tad ungainly, but a million times better than Goodwins howler that immediately shot 20 yards away from him off the toe of his shoe as he tried to coolly bring a stray ball down in his vicinity.

I agree that "We’re ***** with him and ***** without him" but that's our club captain we're talking about and that statement is incredibly damning.

Sadly, it's the Hibs way. Anyone looking for Hibs to appoint a hard-nosed captain or manager (Lennon aside) is howling in the wind.

I think that's understatement of the day. We have seen enough now.
