It was a real blow losing Bowie who I thought looked good from what I seen of him , like the guys character / attitude . It will be a big boast when we get him back . I watched this just a while ago , apologies if you have seen it already thought it was interesting though….

Kieron certainly seems to have all the attributes required and hopefully comes back bigger and better.

However, something about this signing still irks me. It seems to me to be typically flawed Hibs thinking to be paying a large sum of money for a player carrying an injury. A player who would have to be managed gradually and eased into the first team.

Yes, any player can get injured anytime but it seems an unnecessary gamble to take when money is tight, shelling out big money on an injured player.

Hopefully the length of contract will allow us to see the best of Kieron, as we have lost him for most of this season I would expect, but would it have been more prudent to pay money for a player who was fit and first team ready?

Bowie is first team ready though as we’ve seen, he looked great in the couple of games he played. Also, is money tight? This is probably the first period in my lifetime that I wouldn’t say money is tight at Hibs. Injuries happen, maybe Bowie is more injury prone than we’d like but hopefully that’s not the case.

It was an injury that was being managed though and if scotland had managed him properly then would have been playing for us regularly

We spent something like 500-600k for Bowie not sure if that was all up front or in instalment and missed and were supposedly willing to spend 1m on McCowan. Like you say wouldn't say money was tight

As to your question about signing a player fit and first team ready I think Bowie ticked the main boxes in what kind of players we want at the club in having the right character which I think he does ..

from the little we’ve seen of him like his goal against Dundee and a never give up attitude where he smashed the ball of the goal frame against Celtic. We just been unlucky that his injury has reoccurred again and i think long term Bowie will prove to be a good signing who will hopefully come back even stronger from his injury…

We're scunnered by the fact we had to move players on. Bowie is the perfect type of signing for us. That we lack quality in depth to manage without him is a legacy problem.

I've no issue with the signing of Bowie or the unfortunate recurrence of his injury.

He will be a top player for us.

:greengrin True.

Whilst money may or not be 'tight' clubs in the Scottish league can't afford to be wasteful.

My question is not around the potential of the player but more on the recruitment and medical team who decided to take the gamble to pay a lot of money for an injured player which has misfired big time.

Whilst Kieron may or may not go on to fulfill his potential with us I think in future the recruitment team should have a criteria where they only sign medically proven uninjured players.

Depends though. You can get medically proven, uninjured players. But they might be in that condition because they aren't playing! What you want is proven ability, game experienced, and not injured. Not even a niggle? What if we sign a player with a niggle that becomes more?

Perhaps injuries are just part of a performing players life. Go for the right player. Right ability. Manage the risk. Manage the inevitable injuries. In short, do what we are now doing.

Thought it was interesting McGlynn seen him more as No.9 even though he had played wide right at times , think Bowie mentioned he prefers to play more central too . Possibly our new No. 9 next season? .

He got injured playing for Scotland mate not Hibs. We were managing his return pretty well, Scotland took that and threw it out the window.

How long is he out for?

Was excited when he arrived obvious to me he looked more of a central striker than left sided but what do I know ?

A genuine prospect

Now he is injured I have pushed him to the back of my mind only interested in the here and now and we need to start picking up points like yesterday

Disappointing but hope he is not the next Magennis and still has a significant contribution to make this season

Revisit thread when available for selection

This is the new.net fact. We have no idea as to the conversations between Hibs and Scotland in terms of managing his return to fitness.

He was ready to play 90 mins, but perhaps not two games in quick succession. You have to assume there was dialogue between Hibs and Scotland's medical team, about this.

Either way, we signed a player recovering from injury, that always carries risk.
