Out of interest - is there any other way to pay membership other than through Paypal? My Paypal got hacked ages ago and I can't access Paypal on my existing (long time) email address and I'm not willing to create another new address.

I pay by bank transfer. PM an admin and they’ll provide details.

That's happened to me before - what caused mine was renewing when I got a reminder but PayPal had it set as an automatic renewal from the previous year. If you check your PayPal account you'll probably find .net listed twice and you can delete one of them to stop it happening again.
