View Full Version : In all seriousness, which teams are we actually better than?

St Johnstone? Hopefully their new manager won't amount to much.

Truth be told there's not one fixture I'd look at and think 'yep, we should win that one'.

The problem is every struggling team looks for the one fixture and thinks yep we should win this one and it’s against us Hibs.

We’re not better than any team in this league what a sobering thought.

Correct. It's hard to imagine any team worrying about facing Hibs. I wouldn't fancy our chances if we find ourselves in a relegation battle.

At the moment St Johnstone and Hearts as the league suggests, though that will probably change by the months end.

Teams that are struggling and looking for a win look at their fixtures against us and think "great, it's that team we don't even need to play well against as they'll be wasteful up front and will generously gift us our goals."

Then we'll have fans saying that we were "unlucky" because we had more possession and corners, as if games are ever won on any statistics beyond the score line itself.

Got a feeling the yams will win at Pittodrie tomorrow.

Hertz win tomorrow and they are level with us. That's shockingly embarrassing after the start they've had and sacked their manager as a result of that.

St Johnstone and possibly Ross County., but both could pro any beat us on the day, we're just not very resilient and haven't been for years.

That’s it though.

We are at risk of settling for having a lot of possession and thinking we've done alright irrespective of how we ultimately blow it.

Today is yet another example.

Nobody will want to say it, but it can’t be ignored that David Gray is facing some real pressure for the remainder of the October fixtures. Almost feeling like Hearts is already a “must not lose” game for him, and what happens at Tannadice will determine how much pressure he’ll be under for the derby.

The Hearts game feels like a pivotal fixture so early in season - win and we kick on with a boost in confidence. Lose and there’s a strong possibility that it’ll be new manager search time.

On viewing so far this season I would say only St Johnstone and with a new manager at the helm that could soon change. We are destined for a relegation/play off dog fight. Leaky defence and and strikers who can't finish. Hard to continue to defend gray after performances like that. He needs to go, yet another gamble that's not paid off

st johnstone will struggle no matter who they get due to lack of money but they may get more fight out of players, hearts will i suspect push on, as for us i really dont know? different managers and yet we still seem to lack so much as a team, i'm starting to think this is the year we may well drop down as seen nothing but decline for past few seasons.

I think Gray will get the bullet soon and Malky Mackay will take over. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was planned all along ……. ie. hire Gray, keep the plebs happy in the short term with the ‘legend’ and then let their man save the day……. a flight of fancy, some will no doubt say, but I don’t think that’ll be far off the mark. I’ll happily eat my hat if I’m miles off. :greengrin

If we`re talking of squads I`d say we`re more or less as good / bad as the other non OF teams in our division and probably 1 or 2 in the championship ( if we draw Falkirk in cup they`ll be favourites for example ) . Reality is we don`t have enough money to sign significantly better players than the other teams ( Hearts and Aberdeen the same ) so rely on hoping to have a better manager than the rest ( clearly not the case now as most of our opponents have managers who have been given time at clubs to accumulate experience ) and get some lucky results which would boost confidence ( we dominated Motherwell for most of the game today but I doubt they ever thought they were going to lose especially after their recent run ) . This is nothing new . I`ve seen much better Hibs teams than present one beaten by Motherwell , St Johnstone etc many times .

I reckon if we flood the midfield and get the late substitutions right we could nick a draw against Barnstoneworth United.

I expect St Johnstone to continue to be poor and I also think Dundee will struggle after losing McCowan. On current form we'll be bottom six but it could get worse. January will be important to provide more short term fixes.

On loan we have…

Bursic
Kwon
Triantis
Myko

How many are we allowed ? 6 ?

To answer the question - I think the only team we are close to beating regularly are St Johnstone.

Looking ahead we could easily see a bottom 3 of

St Johnston
Ross County
Hibs

The pressure is slightly off because hearts are guff when they beat us its going to turn very toxic.

The correct answer to the thread title is that there are two teams below us in the league that are worse than us, one that we've beaten and one that has played a game more than us.
