In August we lost a well known and much respected member of the Hibernian family, John Campbell. John was the author of several books about the history of our great club. Many of you will also remember his work on the popular and much-missed Hibs fanzine, Mass Hibsteria. John was an early member of the Hibs TV team as well as being involved with hibs.net since it’s inception. In recent years his honest but fair ‘This is How it Feels’ match reports became essential reading.

Following his passing we received several messages from members here asking if we could organise a collection in John’s memory for a suitable charity. After talking with John's family we are today launching a collection for CHAS, the Children's Hospices Across Scotland. (Click on the link for details.)

https://www.chas.org.uk/

We know money is tight for many but anything you can afford to give will be matched by hibs.net up to a total of £500, effectively doubling your donation.

Please donate via paypal to [email protected] giving JC followed by your username or name as a reference. Please post on here as well so we know to look out for your donation. If PayPal isn’t your thing drop HNA12 a Private Message and we can try and sort out an alternative.

We will be open from donations until 31st October when we will pass any money raised to CHAS.

As a tribute to John and in recognition of the work he did to make this forum the lasting success it became, the Private Members forum will now be known as The John Campbell Lounge .

Guys and gals of Hibs.net - what an amazing tribute to John.

And to name the PM board after him is just pure magic.

I'll send something over now xx

Aww man, some dust flew into my eyes when I saw the name change - I didn't know John at all but loved reading his stuff.

Thanks so much to everyone who has donated so far. We have been blown away by the response and we can tell you that there has been over £500 donated already by members here already, a real reflection of the high regard that John was held in.

We originally said the site would match any donation up to a total £500, given how generous people have been here we will up that to £750.

With a couple of days to go the total donated so far is over £950 which is truly remarkable. Thanks to all. Remember if you still want to give but don't use paypal then message HNA12 and we can work out an alternative way to donate.

The wonderful people at the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation have been in touch and have offered to match this sites donation to CHAS in memory of John and have confirmed they will be giving £1000. We really can't thank them enough for making such a generous contribution.

Given how well liked and respected John Campbell was we knew there would be a good response to this collection in his memory but the generosity shown by so many of you has blown us away. We can announce that the amount donated by individuals here hit the £1000 mark yesterday, the final day of the collection. Thanks so much to each and every one of you. As promised the site will be matching that by adding another £1000.

What we really didn't expect was the wonderfully kind offer from the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation to also donate £1000 in memory of John to the chosen charity, CHAS. (The Children's Hospices Across Scotland.) We can't thank them enough.

The grand total donated to CHAS in memory of John is therefore £3000, a real testament to how highly regarded he was. Thanks again to everybody.

If you still want to give please do so directly to the charity, link below.

John was indeed highly regarded. More so than he probably realized being the humble gentleman that he was.

Superb from the HSF also. :aok:
