View Full Version : That's the benchmark

We've had 3 months and a few games now for SDG to get his message across to the players but I certainly feel like he's building something we can all fully get behind

Kwon, Triantis and Hoillet are having a huge impact

Going to ibrox and feeling frustrated at not coming away with a point. That's the standard this season Hibs

That’s the buzzword that gets trotted out (SDG did it today) against the uglies.

the test will be whether this is taken on board by the players.

Question - outside the top top teams how do other teams set and maintain high high standards?

Fans will get behind the team if they can see something to get behind and the method to the madness. The second half against St.Johnstone and second half today were much better and you could see what we were trying to do.

We need to start well next week. Play with plenty energy, attacking intent and try and get a bit momentum going.

The run of games between now and Celtic in December are vitally important. Opportunity to make up lost ground.

It should be. However, it's on a knife edge how this season will go as our league position is not good.

Moments like the late goals lost to Kilmarnock and Dundee, today's missed penalty and Bowie's injury are pivotal. Hopefully Triantis injury is not too bad. You could say the 4 points lost due to late goals and we should have got at least a point today should have had us in the top 4. But we are not.

Hard luck stories are pathetic. We must take advantage of opportunities/win tight games soon or it's going to be yet another bottom 6 finish and poor season.

Motherwell are well capable of beating us. Defeat by them erases today's glorious failure.

Motherwell are equally capable of getting turned over. Let's not be down about results yet to pass!

I'm not really one for sugar coating 5 points out of 18.

I think we look better every game. Obviously there is still a lot to work on, but if we continue to perform like today we will start picking up points. Today we looked coherent and there was a clear image of what we are trying to do

Agree and hopefully that will be the case going forward. Think Gray will make it clear we can't let standards slip and getting yourself up for one of our biggest games then form dipping isn't acceptable.

Rodgers said it after they horsed St Johnstone yesterday, Celtic had to treat that the same way they treat a Champions League game. We need to treat all other games the same as a big trip away to Ibrox.

Really pleasing sings over the last few weeks. Looking forward to watching Hibs again.

I will also chuck the Killie game in to that. We should have won but it was the first game where we looked organised and more like a team. That has carried on and coincides with sorting the middle of the park out.

We missed an opportunity today but there was still plenty to be positive about IMO.

We need to start picking up points and soon. From what I saw it looked there were plenty positives from the performance. But ultimately another game with no points or goals.I'd hesitate to describe that as a benchmark as the OP does. For that I'd be looking for a game over a difficult opponent that involves 3 points and a good performance.

I think there are times where you have to look past the result to understand if it was a good performance or not because sometimes the score doesn’t reflect how the game went.

I felt a point was the least we deserved but had we won it wouldn’t have been a smash and grab where we’d got away with one.

The work rate and bravery on the ball we showed absolutely has to be the benchmark for future games.

Agree with this. We need to follow it up with a win next week, nothing else does. But I actually feel some optimism for the first time this season.

Agree, much improved but need to start scoring on a regular basis which is not happening at the moment.

This 100%.

Also Kwon is surely due a goal next game, hits about 5 shots a game!

I think we've been improving every week which is what we want to see and hopefully will continue as the season progresses. I think we have been scoring regularly. We scored in our previous 4 matches before Ibrox, 1 against Celtic, 2 against Dundee, 1 against Kilmarnock and 2 against St Johnstone. I would like to see us converting more of the chances we are creating though to improve our win ratio.

We’d scored in each of our last 3 games before yesterday? You’re just making up things to be negative at that point

Should have had something on the board from yesterday. A word of warning tho. Rangers are a less physical side than most. Their players ain’t that big. Other teams will make it hard for us and we really need to have a bit belief especially when it isn’t going too well. We aren’t the most clinical in front of goal especially from open play and if teams know this they’ll just let us have the ball and let us play it out wide with no result. Encouraging at the weekend but lots to do.

He is so important to this team. Just does the basics well. Calm, cool and collected... But clearly with an eye for scoring.

How much would he be?

Or have failed to score in 3 out of 6 games, statistics can say anything you want I suppose, unlike some I try not to be negative, difficult at times, unlike some on here. 👍

Good post, sensible analysis.
