Didn't see this posted anywhere else but basically UEFA are dishing out "solidarity payments" and Hibs are to get £1.6M while the Yams will have to make do with a paltry 650K - I find it greatly amusing, gratifying - nay Astonishing - that not only do we get almost £1M more than Hearts but apparently the decision was made somewhere in the depths of Hampden!

From the article: "Under the current distribution model, national associations take receipt of the money, with leagues granted the autonomy to decide which clubs receive pay-outs."

There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth down Gorgie way at this :aok:

It will be because Hearts are actually in the tournament

I'd much rather Hibs were playing in Europe than getting some money because other teams are.

Think it’s because they are no longer in our league.

Discussed here: https://www.hibs.net/showthread.php?368079-European-solidarity-payments, including an explanation of the different levels of payment:

"Hearts receive a lesser fee due to being involved in the Conference League group stage with Livingston not taking a higher bracket payment after relegation to the Scottish Championship.

Similarly, Aberdeen won't earn the full £1.6m having been in European group stage competition in 2023/24 with Dundee United earning £1m instead of £1.6 as they played in the Scottish Championship last season."

They will be getting a lot more than £1.6M for participating in the league phase of Europa Conference League, so I'm note there will be much gnashing of teeth.

This is good news, and extremely welcome given the recent state of our accounts.

Haven’t we always got solidarity payments? I suspect this will have been budgeted for but from what I recall for previous years it was more in the low hundreds of thousands so perhaps an unexpected size of windfall to help balance the books 🤔

I've never heard of them and I don't really understand why you would be rewarded like this for NOT qualifying for Europe.

I suspect one of the reasons for the increase is that UEFA, with the expansion of the CL, have more money to distribute.

That's more money for the qualifying clubs, and more for those that don't.

It's part of UEFA's remit to raise standards throughout Europe, so I don't see this as "rewarding failure" as some might. The alternative would be to give even more to the successful clubs, thereby increasing the disparity between rich and poor.

Edit. Just listened to a podcast on this. The Solidarity Fund has been increased from €175m to €380m.

Don't you?

The lop sided nature of European Competitions and finances ensures that the big clubs are richly rewarded every year and helps cement them in position as the elite. I have no problem whatsoever with a few crumbs being thrown out to the rest of us. I wish it was more.

Rest assured, qualifying for Europe still brings in plenty of financial reward.

Some achievement, surely you would prefer to be in Europe ?

No one has portrayed the pay out as an achievement. Every Hibs fan would prefer Hibs to be in Europe.

As a fan, of course. Not even debatable.

But would we have made £1.6 mil profit from last seasons European run? Doubt it, but might be close.

We still would have got 1 mil like Aberdeen so it's only 600k extra. Europe is more than that obviously and literally no fan is saying they prefer this than Europe but it's obviously a good bonus

Yes - I am still in a pleasant state of mind shock at Hibs receiving a big slab of dosh out the blue - particularly as the sfa/league were involved.

Fair comment from others that we are pnly getting more than the Yams cos we're not in Europe - I can still get a sense of seethe emanating from Tynie though at the thought of us getting any money at all in "solidarity" with them lols

The Jambos sack their manager and we get a million quid more than them - I've seen worse weeks!

Looking forward to seeing them pumped at every opportunity, and that “special” Tynecastle atmosphere.
