Hibs related in as much that the Socceroo future of two of our players, Martin Boyle and Lewis Miller will be under question.
Boyle was certainly a favourite of Graham Arnold, but there are now a few younger guys knocking on the door.
Only announced a few hours ago and a new coach expected to be in place within a couple of weeks.
No favoured candidate yet, but Kevin Muscat, Tony Popovic, Tony Vidmar, Monty and a crafty French guy called Reynard who coached Saudi Arabia all mentioned in various despatches.

Was this an unexpected departure, possibly lining up another club job?
Selfishly it might not be a bad thing for Hibs if they were left out, it would cut out a lot of extra travel and make them fresher for club games.

Just a year too late for him as I'm pretty certain we tried to get him before Montgomery

The quality playing for Australia just now, isn’t of the highest. Tough gig for whoever takes it on

Herve Renard would be a good appointment. Won AFCON twice iirc.

I think the timing of it was unexpected, but Arnie is not as popular in Oz as some seem to think.
Whatever popularity he enjoyed nosedived with a loss to Bahrain and a goalless draw with Indonesia, making qualification for the World Cup finals very difficult.
There was/is a feeling that as far as the national team goes…both in the shape of management and players that the ‘refresh’ button needed to be pushed
To his credit, he seemed to also think that was the case.

Very refreshing for a manager to realise change is needed and act themselves instead of waiting to be sacked.

Credit to him for putting his hand up, but I think it was a case of when and not if he’d be offloaded unless a complete turnaround quickly eventuated.
In fairness to him I think he squeezed all the juice out of the lemons he had, and saw nothing but pain on the horizon with Japan and Saudi Arabia coming up.
As someone pointed out it’s going to be a tough gig for whomever takes over…..at the moment the squad is mediocre at best, the poorest I can remember in years at worst.
