Interesting article, though I've not listened to the podcast.
Makes you wonder who else is at it.

It was rife a few years ago but a few of the big players in some of the better known scandals have suggested it's far less prevalent now.
The Pakistan cricket spot fixing scandal, the Hoyzer case in Germany, the 2013 scandal in England and the Tom Donaghy case in the NBA all happened in quick succession and saw bookies invest relative fortunes in their tech to spot unusual patterns quicker.
There are still spot fixes as they are far easier to orchestrate than fixing an entire match. The guys mentioned above said most of it is done offline now and is pretty low tech. If you see someone selling fixed matches on the dark web or a Telegram group the chances are the scam is getting you to pay for duff information or none at all.

The bit about more bets on Welling v Billericay than Celtic v Barca on the same night was mind-blowing.
The betting industry must see it as a price worth paying since they continue to offer odds on just about anything, anywhere...

I've said it before, but I will say it again - Zibby Malkowski, 7 high profile howlers, all against dodgy Lithuanian Vladimir Romanov owned Hearts. :cb

I have come across two match fixing rings in my work whilst treating people with gambling addiction.
My impression is that they are more prevalent than people believe.

100%.
You can throw Ollie the goalie into the mix for similar - ended up running with some very dodgy characters.

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of it over the years. The errors are so ridiculous in those derbies that there is no other explanation.

Especially when he appeared to be pretty capable in other games. Think this sort of thing is much more prevalent than people know the issue of course is evidence.

He somehow kept getting picked so obviously nobody at Hibs suspected anything. It was Collins who finally dropped him forever after the 3-2 defeat at Tynie when Zibby spilt a simple free kick and allowed Jankauskus to score.
The only decent save he made against Hearts was stopping Benji running to the Hearts fans after his goal at Easter Road. Didn't want the disrespect shown to his paymaster's supporters is my guess for him doing that.

My impression is that he shat the bed in big games but I can only remember one non-Hearts error in his entire time with us (v Kilmarnock I think?).

I'd normally dismiss such stuff but that bit in bold is what gives a degree of credence to the accusation imo. Zibi wasn't a bad keeper, he had some decent games for us (the 0-3 Sproule game at Ibrox in particular springs to mind, he was commanding all day). In saying that he did make an absolute howler when he went on loan to ICT and never played for them again either.
Someone like Simon Brown was just total crap and his game was littered with mistakes but Zibi saved the vast, vast majority of his for games v Hearts. He didn't crumble in the same way in other high profile games.

Agree with that. All or pretty much all were in derbies. The game we were annihilating them at Er with two early goals then he throws in two was ridiculous

He saved a penalty at 5-6 which makes me doubt that.

Currently 3 players facing court from my local A League team Macarthur for accepting $10,000 for incurring a yellow card in various games.
The captain, Ulysses Davila, a Mexican who was on Chelsea’s books at one stage was the ringleader and recruited them.
The bets were laid in South America by an organised crime syndicate.

Any referees included? Imagine if there were then the ones that come out and defend the mistakes trying to change their tune.

I never ever suspected that but now you mention it.
Zibby was pretty dependable and consistent. Had a great game vs the hun in the Sproule hat-trick game. They could have been out of sight if it wasn’t for his performance. But he always seemed to be a liability against hertz. And when you add in the Romanov factor, it all starts to look a bit obvious.

Just watch Colin Hendry vs San Marino in his last game for Scotland. Was utterly manic and weird in the time he was on. Sending off he got was nonsensical. Absolutely convinced he had some bets on scoring/sending off.

That Triantis yellow absolutely reeked of match fixing.
