View Full Version : Thoughts on summer deals Ins /outs and what is our strongest 11 ? ( everyone fit )

I still think we might add a player or two from the free agent’s market and while not getting McCowan was hugely disappointing I do think we have had a relatively good summer window with a good effort to clear out players that’s not needed while we have improved the quality of the squad. Probably give it a 6 or 7 out of 10 .
Strongest team at the minute with everyone fit I’d probably drop both Boyle and Obita from as they seem to have lost form and would go for …..
Bursik .
Miller .
Ekpiteta .
O’Hora .
Iredale .
Triantis.
Kwon .
Newell.
Bowie .
Myko.

Agree with the front six based on what I’ve seen. Don’t know about the back five. I think any combination you come up with will probably result in the same things happening.

Not seen Iredale though hoping he’s steady and reasonably good defensive wise . I actually thought defensively we looked ok against Killie and stood up to their physicality very well for most of the game apart from a couple of moments in the match.

Probably too early to say. At this point in time we don’t appear any better than last season but that may well change, for better or worse.

Why are you leaving the player you said would be player of the year and score double figures from midfield out?

I never said he would be PotY . I did say IF he was playing regularly in the first team he could go on to score double figures for us .
We have since acquired two good quality midfielders which will probably be the preferred options now . Though Josh will be needed over the course of a very long and hard season like the rest of our players .
Hopefully this has answered your question SM :aok:

I know Kwon and Triantis did okay last time out, but I still feel we really, really need a creative attacking midfielder. And a new goalie.

Hard working, solid, give us a good foundation then bring on Rudi, Boyle, Yahooanne, McHibby etc as needed.
Our lack of a stable reliable left back is a big issue if Obita doesn't get his mojo back.

I thought Kwon was very good and Triantis our best player. It would have been good to get a creative midfielder no doubt about it though high hopes that Rudi will at times and possibly Hoilett could play there too .
The Goalkeeper I’m not to concerned about , it might work out in time that he’s not the best though early days yet imo. I think the bulk of the goals we are losing are more defenders making mistakes or other outfield players than the goalies fault.
Which hopefully will improve in time considering we have so many new signings.

This isn't a bad shout and worth a try.
From the start we have made this season any side which does not include Miller and Obita is worth a go. Both of them are rash, unreliable and an accident waiting to happen.
Key to this side is the goalkeeper and back three. All are new and the jury is out whether any are good enough. Understand we have yet to see Iredale, but it's vital he is reliable on the left hand side of our defence, whatever the combination is.

Personally the only change I’d make to that first OP posted is Hoilett for Youan. I think he’s going to be excellent for us, a really good decision maker.

Far too early to be saying anything is crap or good. Upfront doesn't look great to me. Only a worldy to score against Kilmarnock and blanks against Celtic and St Mirren. Lot to improve there.

Plenty of quality upfront in Myko , Bowie , Youan , Hoilett , Boyle , Rudi . I think once some of them are 100% fit , rediscover form etc . We are as good as anyone outside Celtic upfront .

That’s true though Bowie hasn’t been 100% fit , both Hoilett and Youan have been injured and Boyles form hasn’t been great . I’m optimistic that Boyle will come good and with players coming back from injury and getting their fitness up we will see it hopefully.

I sometimes wonder why certain fans just don’t find a new hobby rather than Hibs when it brings so much misery to them .
I’ve yet to read anything of hope or of a positive nature in your post about our football club , the relentless negativity really is rather draining….

Things looked good with our first 3 signings who looked good in pre season and league cup games.
First 45 at St Mirren aside it's been really poor in the league, I'm sure it was O'Hora who said the 0-2 Celtic was an eye opener.
Iredale hasn't even played a game yet so not sure you can add him into the best 11.
Youan will be great to have back attacking wise, N. Cadden hasn't had enough minutes yet to judge, looked comfortable when he's played though.
Any latest news regarding Hoilett?

Much I as find your post a bit near the bone, Donegal. I must admit it is true.
I see things very black or white when it comes to Hibs. I tend not to hunt for grains of optimism, when in reality there is very little to justify it. I haven't seen a real body of evidence to show that we can become a solid, consistent side which will compete in the top four. For the last 3-4 years we have had too many charlatans running the club and a large amount of ineffectual players playing in the side. We always seem to be an Obita foul in the box, a Bushiri howler or Ekpiteta poor pass back in us to be a serious team. It just seems to me we are saddled with characters like this in the side who consistently fail.
Hell, maybe I should end a post with a grain of optimism for a change. Bowie seems to have some promise and one of the few signed in this window who could actually make a difference.

I see progress with the squad , at last, I actually like the look of many of the players, but it’s early days, I’m really unsure of the goalie, and can’t understand the loanee player starts in goal, and the reserve is permanent .
Bowie could be anything , but I love his attitude, and that’s a great attribute.
Ive always loved watching Youan play, and I’m delighted rudi has got good game time, I think Jacob McIntyre is a fantastic player, and might surprise a few if given some game time.

We never got knocked out the cup because of Kelty Hearts, Celtic put us out. Had we been seeded for the round, then we could have been beat by another team. Look at how Hearts got on, for example.

Improvements to the team with players like Bowie , Myko , Hoilett , Kwon , Triantis , keeping Youan . Performance generally against Killie .
Players getting their fitness up 100% , players coming back from injuries like Hoilett and Youan .
Club willing to spend a million quid which hopefully will be used now in January to further improve/ strengthen the first team .
A very winnable game after the break ….

Despite the ending at Kilmarnock, it was the first time I have seen signs of a functioning team. Adding Hoilett, Youan and getting Bowie in to the team should make a massive difference in the final third. We need to get some wins on the board now but I think we will improve. Next two home games need to be six points though.

I don’t doubt we’ll improve in terms of results. As bad as I think we look, we’re not going to continue getting 0.5ppg. Theres not been much so far for me that suggests we’ll be anywhere near where we want to be though.

Losing to Kelty meant we weren't seeded and as a consequence ended up away to Celtic where it was odds on we would lose. I think that's the point the previous poster is making.

Just playing devil's advocate but I don't think beating Kelty made drawing Celtic impossible, more extremely unlikely. Would have seen 4 teams finish on 12 points with only 3 to be seeded. Take the point though, losing to Kelty never helped
