View Full Version : St Johnstone home - build up thread

Hibs now have a 2 week break till we play St Johnstone at home.

Kilmarnock result was frustrating especially with another late goal but there were some positive signs.

Hibs haven’t won a league game yet..been in winning positions twice though.

St Johnstone sit on 3 points with a single win against Killie(0-3!!) but have lost last 2 league games against Motherwell and Dundee Utd.

St Johnstone won the least league game at Easter Road 2-1.

They also are a bit of a bogey team for Hibs in recent years.

Craig Levein obviously the manager.

A win for Hibs would take them above St Johnstone.

Hopefully see Hoilett and Youan back to add some speed and quality out wide but obviously both lacking match fitness so probably on bench?

Does Bowie start ? Who drops out ?

Do we keep the same back 5 that have shipped 11 goals in 5 games ?

Another interesting game but really a game we should be winning to get the season going - no excuses as we have a 2 week break to work on fitness and other areas of the game.

A must win game, need to get points on the table, confidence up and get rid of the fact we’ve not won a game yet.

Obita must be dropped, other than that it’s the same defence and midfield as yesterday.

Need to get Bowie in the team and place on the left also up for grabs.

We need to win this game, nothing else is good enough. If we can’t win this then we really are in trouble and you’re wondering where a win comes from.

I know it’s ridiculous to suggest it’s a ‘must win’ this early in the season but I feel if we don’t win it, preferably comfortably, then things may get quite toxic and uncomfortable for SDG and the players.

Yeah, sure, but the longer we go without a win the pressure, the criticism all builds and confidence wains. We need to win and we need to keep on winning more than we lose.

What we “must” try and achieve this season is a top 6 finish as a minimum. That will show some progression over the coarse of the season. A win against St Johnstone will certainly relieve some pressure and help towards that objective, but a draw or even a loss won’t make it impossible, just a bit harder.

we have brought in 11 new players. On Saturday we fielded 7 players who had never played for our first team before this season, plus Rudi who I think had made about 3 sub appearances prior to this season and Triantis who only played a dozen times last season and hasn’t been part of the squad till Friday.

it will take time for them to become a fully cohesive unit, but the signs are good. Marvin was solid yesterday and to be honest apart from his issues with pass back has looked a very solid defender since he arrived. O’Hora is a leader and has been mostly excellent. I personally think Lewis Miller has been very good so far this season.. it’s only Jordan Obita who is struggling a bit in the back line right now.

midfield looks much stronger with Kwon on board and Triantis was very good yesterday. Rudi was quiet yesterday but has been on form and I still believe NMW, Amos and Nicky Cadden have something to offer. Both Bowie and Myko are upgrades. When Hoilett and Youan is fit we have plenty of options.

the only real position I’m still concerned about it the goalkeeper, and he needs to play 20 games before we are in a position to judge.

we will be fourth or fifth this season. We will do more business in January and strengthen further. we need to stop panicking as a support and give Malky and SDG a chance to build a new team.

I love this idea. It will be really disappointing for me if it doesn't bear fruit. Each of them individually is a real handful. Elie is the most mercurial tending to hit higher highs and lower lows but I am so eager to see them play together but working with each other, not going solo, so I hope they are getting some practice in. Passing to each other, anticipating positioning etc needs to be instinctive.

biggest concern is how Boyle has dropped off form badly - still having some positive contributions but over all he currently looks well over other side from his peak. Previously his effort and desire to help out over all team would not have been in question.

hope this 2 weeks away from club football he can find whats missing - if not we have when injuries clear up options that should be used in front of him starting

It's a winnable game so really is a must win, St Johnstone are struggling at the moment and a team i expect will be right down near the relegation spots, let's not give away any silly goals and we'll be fine.

I don't think we're in a relegation battle, but I suspect it's going to be a bit of a slog until things click as we've so many new players that we're fitting in alongside bringing a new coaching style and (hopefully) a different tactical approach to games. Sometimes these things can fall in to places quickly but it shows we're not in that situation, though there's signs of promise with every game we play.

A good old classic Hibs transitional season ahead. I think we'll end the season playing well and winning more games than we lose/draw but I also fear it might be a bit too late for it to make a difference regarding European places. Fingers crossed I'm wrong on the last point.

I said we'd beat killie 3 nil so I'm not even guessing the St Johnstone result.

I see they are not allowing you to choose your seat for the BTG section

They are still allowing to buy tickets via the hospitality section but seats are allocated automatically

Seems a bit silly as in sure sometimes ST holders will want to go with folk that can sit right next to it near them atleast

Wonder why they have taken away that functionality

I moved my seat in West to get seats together with my daughter and we were given seats down the other end of East. Looking at the seat plan I’m kind of thinking we are in the but where a lot of folk stand!

The two sections you mention are not showing a lot of seats together so maybe it’s just a case of grouping where they can.

I thought the South might have been reintroduced for Hibs Kids games but then again, sitting close to away fans is probably not the best environment for families.

So was Bowie carrying this injury into the Scotland u21 game ?!

Playing 56 mins against a decent Spain team then flying / training then starting tonight maybe was the best move only 4 days later.

If it’s hamstring again then probably out for a good few weeks - could easily be out next 4games and even miss the Derby.

I think also with the U21s it's a reflection of more talent heading down south early. So these guys may be out on loan or playing academy football and we've never heard of them.

His performances this season have been really poor from what I've seen and last time out cost us a result. I don't think he's become a bad player overnight but DG keeps talking about setting standards so the line needs drawn somewhere. But he is not the only one to have made errors and could be a bit down to match sharpness for him and two weeks will have done him good will be interesting to see.

What's the bets on a nail biting last 10mins retreating deeper and clinging onto a result.

Ideally he'll play, do well and we'll have competition for the spot. If Davy drops him and Iredale isn't overly convincing, then we'll have to choose the least bad.

Bursik

Cadden (Chris)
Marv
O'Hora
Obita

Kwon
Newell
Triantis

Boyle
Myko
Rudi

Just got this feeling DG will stick by Obita.

Think this will be the team too even though Boyle and in particular Obita should be rested.

Looking like a good crowd today. Probably helped by the fact we’ve not been at ER for 3 weeks and won’t be there for another 3 weeks. So stop/start with all the breaks.

This time of season is the worst by far. Just as you start getting into it there's another break. Certain that league cup quarters used to be midweek traditionally but now its another weekend due to europe presumably? Seems to get worse every year.

Obita has to know that he's facing the bench if he has another poor game. I hope that stirs him up. I would agree about Boyle.

Oh, chance for Rudi to slot in if true.

On a side note, the view of Easter road from Arthur's Seat never disappoints me.

Yeah you’d imagine rudi plays in a central position with Youan or Hoilett off the left

Or Levitt

Year wouldn’t be against it.

If Levitt can’t perform at home against St Johnstone with guys like Kwon and Triantis behind him then I’m not sure when he will

It’s all set for him to really dictate the game, be creative and play to his strengths

Or the full house v Saints a couple of seasons back when we fluffed our lines...it's the sort of weekend where we fail to win and Hearts get a wholly unexpected result at Celtic.

Fortunately Saints are a poorer team than they were then and Celtic look stronger than they've been for a while so fingers crossed for a Hibs win and a gubbing for the yams.

Bizarre considering Gray said injured players are coming back adding competition for places and didn't mention any new injuries in the HibsTV pre-match interview.

Must admit, I'm getting really ****ing sick of injuries! Must be the unluckiest team going.

It does seem though that with almost everything player we sign, we bicker about whether their recent injury record suggests they’re injury prone.

Then they miss chunks of seasons through injury.
