I just thought we should have a thread for our new signing. Good pedigree, made a big difference at Aberdeen last year, scores some Worldies and seems like a really nice bloke. Welcome to the hibees

What I like is we have a lot of players that are 100 mph and just want to almost force it at times

Hoilett is the exact opposite and will bring a sense of calm and composure to the team.

He’s a player that will make the right decisions more often than not and have the quality to pull it off

I know they had their problems, but guys like Jamie Murphy, Aidan McGeady and ALF showed their intelligence and quality when they were here. I think we’ll see that with Hoilett but hopefully a lot more regularly if he stays injury free

Welcome, Junior!

Happy with this. Great experience to have around the place and gives us options and quality.

Can play both wings and just behind the striker as well. Smart business.

Will be good addition as long as he stays fit.
3 mentioned above as examples, Murphy, McGeady, ALF all sat out a good bit with injuries

If he plays more than ALF and can contribute to us at the same level he did with Aberdeen, it’ll be a smart bit of business. I’m glad that Gray has been able to go out and sign a player he’s identified.

Welcome to the rollercoaster, Junior.

Junior looks like he has a touch of class about him and I look forward to seeing him in a Hibs shirt.

WELCOME!

I seem to have missed him during his time at the dons, but watching his goals video, he looks like the real deal :flag:

Patched Aberdeen for us, so for that alone 👌
Welcome Junior.

Assume we have him for a year before a big money move to Bournemouth 😁

May have been posted somewhere else, but interested to find out his actual name is David Wayne Hoilett.

Great to have his experience but can’t help but feel this signing represents the total short term-ism that exists at the club, which has been a big contributing factor to where we currently find ourselves.

the issue up to now is that we have been signing young “prospects” for the most part, who have struggled to establish themselves as successful, consisted SPFL performers. So our issue has been having too much of a long view and hoping they come good, instead of buying proven, “first team ready” players. So our recruitment problem has been the very opposite of short-termism. JH is a vastly experienced player who has proved he can hit the ground running and make a material difference to a team in our league in a short period of time. He’s the very definition of “First Team Ready”. I think you are just trying to find a form of words, (without much substance) that criticises the club.

A couple of seasons ago, the club followed this mad "development team first" transfer policy of signing youth, giving them radge long contracts without them making more than a toeprint of an impact on the starting XI to the obvious detriment of the first team, which has been a far bigger contributing factor to where we currently find ourselves.

Probably more about what he did in the toilet at Dens in 86

It’s only in the last few years that I realised David and Junior Hoilett were the same player. I’d always heard him referred to as David in his early years.

He helped Aberdeen avoid playoffs / relegation and very nearly reach cup final in a a few months and hopefully in 9 or 10 months with us can help us to even more . Short terminism is completely normal in modern football and whatever model we `re supposed to be following ( devt team etc ) there will always be room for short - term signings whether with veterans like in this case or with short term loan deals with younger players .

I wasn’t exactly overly excited about a 34 year old winger joining us either though after thinking about it again , it could turn out to be one of our better signings in ….

He done well at Aberdeen , didn’t cost us a fee and his experience could not only be beneficial to young Rudi but the team in general.

The short term-ism is we have got to improve this season and maybe Hoilett will help us do exactly that .
