View Full Version : Sense of foreboding

I know people will say this is a kneejerk reaction to today's result but I have a real sense of foreboding about this season that has been building this summer.

Last season ended poorly but my anticipation about this season was high due to the well publicised investment.

Then the summer happened. A protracted and dull window so far. Couple of lower league CH's and a couple of goalies, our first choice no.1 being rather young and inexperienced for my liking. However, LC results were promising...until Kelty aarrggh.

Then the drip, drip of bad publicity. The public criticism by Foley, the weeks without a signing, the articles hinting at reimagining the qualities of Campbell and Vente and most worrying for me little hints here and there about finances.

Then today's disasterous first league result

Early days but this feels like it will be a long season unless SDG can woek some magic.

Oh we could definitely go down this season. We will be on zero points after 3 games and out the league cup.

It’s not knee jerk at all,it’s completely rational.
Hibs have become easy pickings for clubs the size of st mirren and Dundee and it shouldn’t be ignored just how bad a situation that is.

We are in a rebuild but it’s not even been slightly approached properly. Scatter gun,and the defence is still shocking so that’s absolutely not fixed either.

The scary thing about this nonsense today apart from same old is that it’s already only our second worst result this season. Things might get worse before they get better.

Some got fed up with all the anger after the Kelty debacle and claimed it was just an off day.

Be prepared for a whole heap more off days in the coming weeks.

It's actually hard to predict when we'll get our first point.

We're not in a rebuild though are we? We just seem to be shifting the pieces around the board with no sense of any strategy or momentum.

Big concern is our reaction to going 1 down. If we don’t get a quick equalizer the heads go down and we often lose more goals. Happened a lot last season and looks like it could be the same this season.

To think we have only been around for almost 150 years and we still put out a load of dead beats like today.
Scary times at Hibs.

I hope the club will get better but can it get better if we have the same owners and HC/manager.
I hope SDG is the right man for the job and that the owners are also the best possible guardians of our club.
Time will tell.

We look like a team that has had three managers in the last 12 months.

There is no magic wand, its going to take several windows to undo the mess of the last three seasons. Gray has a tough job ahead of him to make us hard to beat.

100% how the vast majority on this forum feel. I fear the worst having arched that. Sadly, it is going to get a lot worse before it gets better. Those running the club have managed to make a bigger mess of us than any previous season.

We just have far too many mediocre players who maybe apart from Newell lost the battle against their opponent today, I'm not that surprised by the result TBH, you're foreboding is how most Hibs fans feel

Tha majority of that squad is full of tried and tested failures within the playing team

How on earth we have rocked up to match day one thinking a couple of centre half’s with the greatest respect lower league England was going to be the game changer was / is madness

Our biggest problem continues to be recruitment

Nothing personal but its views like this that are a massive problem with our fan base who have went far too soft. If we’re accepting players like Newell as good enough (never mind be captain) we deserve everything we have coming to us this season.

Serious discontent will set in this season, even more so than now.

The board will do what they always do and they'll empty the manager but that will bite them big time.

I'm out anyway, I'll continue to check here and I obviously support hibs but I'm done with the **** show of a regime.

After one league game, I can't wait til the seasons over. Jesus.

It doesn’t help that we hand player who have been poor/mild contract extensions.

You can’t improve if you stay the same.

I keep seeing this 3/4 windows to sort this mess out debate but I’m struggling as to how continuing to bring in loan players is going to sort the mess? It just leads to a continuous revolving door with players in and out.

Another mess of a transfer window so far.

We have so many contracted players who just won’t make enough of a 1st team contribution though. That’s what’s tying our hands.

Loans give us a chance to get a respectable team out whilst those contracts run down.

It’s a sorry state of affairs etc…

The club from top bottom is failing. The players arent good enough. Why Newell was given a new contract is beyond me. Id sack the majority of the players.

Exactly.

Years of poor recruitment in the playing department is costing us dearly.

Years of sacking managers off the back of the poor recruitment and then paying out on these severance packages has compounded things.

I looked at St Mirren today and they have no superstars. They are, however, strong, quick, streetwise and direct. If ever there was a prototype for a smaller top flight club to succeed in Scotland it's them.

We looked slow, tired, naive by comparison in the 2nd half.

If your only just realising this now then fair enough but most of us have seen this coming a mile off. The squad that limped to 8th last season has been significantly weakened. David Gray has been parachuted in as the fall guy to take the flack for yet another transition season as the board know he will get more of a pass than a new manager.

Saying this now but the Gordon's have been the worst thing to happen to Hibs in its History.

You cannot sack any players without a reason, which we don't have. Sacking the majority of the players would bankrupt us.

The risk you take when you take your time with signings, trusting the process or whatever you want to call it, is you start the season with an inadequate squad.

On each of the last two seasons, our top/bottom six status has been decided on the final game of the split. In each of those two games we failed to get the result that would have guaranteed our top six status.

We don't have games spare to say "we can write them off and just have the team ready when the window closes". St Mirren are likely to be in the mix for a top six finish again, we want to be there so that's a six-pointer today, and we weren't ready for it because we've dragged our heels with recruitment.

Why do we drag our heels in that case? With the exception perhaps of re-signing Boyle I can't recall any late signings the current regime have been responsible for making me think 'wow, that was worth the wait'.

Absolutely spot on, it’s just crazy when people write this off as “the window isn’t shut yet”. Were absolute garbage and not getting better in early will cost us big style. This season looks like a disaster already, it’s unacceptable.

Bill Foley, The Gordons. Rookie manager, Malky MacKay and nothing done to raise quality of the squad pre-season. Put that lot together things could get pretty ugly quite soon!
