No access to the holy ground so decided to post in here rather than the main.
Looking to book up for the weekend of the St Johnstone game on the 14th September, usually stay at South Queensferry but they are asking for £300+ for 3 nights, even the weekend of Motherwell game for 3 nights is 300+, it has usually been much cheaper than that.
I notice that the premier inns in Livingston, especially bathgate is very cheap at 180 for 3 nights.
Just wondering what the area was like?
Thanks.

Both areas aren’t bad mate, the Bathgate one is right in the edge of the town, with a carvery attached. You’re not likely to see any bother there at all, albeit the public transport to it isn’t amazing (not sure if you’re driving or getting a train etc). You’d have a bit of a walk to Bathgate train station, maybe half an hour or so.
The Livingston one is also at the edge of the town, right next to the M8. There is a bus stop next to it, but not sure how well it’s serviced. It has an M&S garage across the road if you needed anything, as well as a beefeater restaurant attached. The garage means there’s a bit more traffic around it than the one at Bathgate, but again unlikely you’d have any hassles.
Neither have much in the way of nightlife etc nearby though.
Let me know if there’s any other questions I can help with

Thank you, I did notice there is a bus from bathgate train station to the fire station which is not to far from the premier inn.
I've never been before so wasn't sure if it was full of neds(sorry any bathgate Hibees) as I usually go for a walk Friday night when I arrive.
ScotRail to and from Edinburgh Saturday and Sundays so will probably just book it for September.

Yeah you could get the bus along from the train station to the fire station, the premier inn is on the other side of the fire station, it’s probably half a dozen stops or so.
Going for a walk won’t be difficult, personally I’d avoid walking on the same side of fire station as the bus takes you, there likely will be the usual kids out. You can walk along the A89 (the road the premier inn is on) without any difficulty. You could walk in the direction of one of the other spurs off the big roundabout there, but they don’t all have paths.

No idea of availability but I've used this place for colleagues during the Festival period in the past. Bankton House Hotel Bistro | Murieston, Livingston (https://www.banktonhousehotel.co.uk/). 2 mins from Livingston South Station. 10 minute walk to buses into Edinburgh. Decent Bar

Would seem a better location especially for train into Edinburgh but also Glasgow

Just had a look now for 3 nights in September and it's £390,
I assume prices have gone up on some premier inns and Travelodge, South Queensferry definitely used to be cheaper and the price of Cameron toll Travelodge is ridiculous.
I'm not a tight arse 😁 just feels expensive at the moment and need to get up.

No plans to visit Glasgow, yet! Can get train from bathgate to Waverley, 25 minutes, not to bad.

After all that I decided to go for 3 nights at the Livingston M8 for £215 for the St Johnstone game, not to far from Livingston North station.
Will probably be using this one going forward also, have seen a few chippys not to far for my white pudding suppers, any recommendations?
I don't think there's anything up by the deer park one other than the garage , beefeater and deer park golf club which has a pool and 10 pin bowling with burgers etc. Nice walk along to the golf course, should be safe enough. It's a bit of a hike to the train station, maybe half an hour walk , not sure of the route or how easy it is to walk.

La Capana chippy is right next to Livi Norths Edinburgh platform - it's been a wee while since I used them but they used to be really good.
FYI - Uphall train station is closer (if you're going by car/taxi) to your Premier Inn than Livingston North (same train line and 1 stop closer to Waverly).

If I'm driving to the game that day (most likely will be) then I don't mind giving you a lift there and back, though I guess you will probably want to go in early for a beer.
Mind you, the way our season seems to be going already, I probably will go in for a beer...

Bathgate is full of neds (I’m not sorry any Bathgate Hibees!) but not anywhere near where the premier inn is, it’s on the outskirts of the town and you’ll have no bother. Livingston one is next to the posh hooses, be fine there too.

You’d probably be best walking through the Deer Park estate, past Deans High and then along to Morrisons and down to the station from there. Been a while since I’ve done it mind you so might be a faster way?

Actually a pretty easy walk. Head west towards deer park, then follow the road out through the houses til you get to the main road, then keep heading west until you get to Deans High school, then go left at the roundabout past Morrisons and the Arnold Clark garage.
As someone has said, Uphall train station is geographically closer, but I don’t think there’s a direct path, and would need to cross the dual carriageway to get there.
The La Capana is about the closest chippy, tbh none of the chippies are great tbh Tambo 😂

Great minds :greengrin
I think you’re right, not really a faster way (maybe going through the houses at Fells Rigg but you’re probably talking about saving a minute at most)

There’s a wee path that goes round the front of Dechmont Law that leads towards (I think) Herd Green, don’t need to go right to the main road. Only know that because I used to go out with a lassie from Deer Park when I was in school[emoji1787] probably saves a good five minutes

Actually yeah you’re right, not sure if it’s all paved or some on the grass/dirt, but you can definitely go up towards Dechmont Law then come out both at Herd Green or if you go further, next to the high school

There is a path to Uphall station, but it’s not the most pleasant as it’s sandwiched between the railway and an industrial estate. If you’re heading from the Premier Inn towards Deer Park golf club, just after the roundabout there’s a path off to the left (maybe signposted The Loan Path?). It takes a bridge over the railway, then immediately turning left takes you straight along to Uphall.

I usually do my own thing before the game but will keep it is mind.
Thanks everyone else for some good information, can't wait now.

I mean, it's not "full" of neds, but I was down the precinct on my lunch the other day, and it's about 80% neds, 10% decent folk and 10% barbers.

I'm just having a look now on a Reddit post and I'm happy I avoided booking bathgate, not that Corby Town ain't a dump itself like.

Honestly - you'd have been fine in that hotel and there's plenty up market places to eat.
I've lived here nearly 10 years and never had any bother whatsoever.
Sure, there's a few bits that need touching up with pain etc.. but it's broadly speaking pretty decent.

Went for a little walk on the path behind the golf course, seems easy enough to walk to the station today for the game.
Ordered some food from cofa grill and shawarma, was quite nice actually.

Did you go past the face? (It's a small hill that's designed to look like a face from above).
You get the train station alright?

I'm no sure really, the path behind the golf course and then the simple path with the train line on the left and the industrial estate on the right.
Easy to get to, my poor mother is old and can't really walk that far anymore, she got the flixbus, which I've never heard of or seen before and drops you off right outside the Travelodge, not much to do up the Livingston M8 one.
Will maybe try bathgate for my next visit.

Decent places to eat and a few good pubs too. Much cheapness compared to the too.
