I bumped into an auld pal outside the West Stand just before the game yesterday. He was talking to a guy I didn't recognise and he introduced me to him - I was taken aback to discover it was none other than Bobby Duncan.

It was great being able to have a wee chat with him, especially about that goal against Napoli in '67 - the distance he scored it from has gotten greater over the years.

I would never have recognised him as it's decades since I've seen him, but he's looking, and sounding good. What I'd forgotten was that he struck the shot with his left foot.

It was later on I realised that where I was speaking to Bobby was literally yards away from where he scored that memorable goal. Meeting him got my Hibs afternoon off to a great start.

Remember it well.

I think Bobby ended up working as a fireman fora while after his playing days.

Career cut short by a disgraceful ‘tackle’ by Celtic’s John Hughes.

Good to hear he’s travelling well and still visits Easter Road.

I heard his bone snap from 70 yards away. Hughes was an animal who should have been "ban sine die" for that

Bobby stole the show at Pat's 75th birthday celebration at the Usher Hall. (Can that be 5 years ago?)Favourite ever Hibs goal and can still picture it in my mind. Must have been 40-yards at least. In those days your European opponents were picked out of a hat. No seeding and we ended up playing some of the best teams in Europe and from memory, only Juventus deserved to beat us at Easter Road.

Bobby Duncan was a great entertaining football player and a full back way ahead of his time - pacy, could dribble and loved attacking. Paved the way for the likes of Brownlie. Hughes on the other hand was an absolute disgrace who knew he could get away with murder because of the strip he was wearing.

Am I right in thinking that Hughes wasn’t even booked for that assault (won’t dignify it with the word tackle)? From memory Bobby had just won a hard 50/50 with Hughes and his reward was a cowardly hit from behind which we heard from the old Main Stand.

Came just after the Leeds United debacle Bobby Duncan had been playing well and was getting touted for Scotland

Things did not start well for Duncan when a low driven cross into the box after only two minutes deflected off John Madsen and in off Duncan into the empty net Bobby Lennox added a second when he was allowed a free header at a corner Bobby Duncan suffered a broken leg when he was tackled from behind by John Yogi Hughes just before half time and wasn’t even booked This prompted a mass battle in the Cow Shed as bottles and cans came onto the pitch as well as hundreds of spectators and Ronnie Simpson was forced to abandon his area until order was restored

Mind it well, was behind the goals as a youngster what an atmosphere battles all around and I believe that Hughes was that thick he was going to go into the Hibs dressing room to say sorry but Jock Stein stopped him.

The only player booked that day was Stevie Chalmers for a foul on Pat Quinn

Bobby Duncan would go on to play for Pat Quinn at his ultra defensive East Fife outfit and played on the day the music died when John Brownlie broke his leg in the first home game after 0-7
