Great gold performance from Kelly Hodgkinson in the women’s 800 metres.

She was in charge of that field before the race even started, a real presence that only the greats have. Well done to her.

Gold for Hodgkinson. Looked like Moraa was going to make a real race of it but it was never in doubt from about 80m out.

She is head and shoulders above the rest of that field, what a performance.

Great gold performance from Kelly Hodgkinson in the women’s 800 metres.

Looked so calm and in control, then coming off the bend just left them all behind

Really looking forward to the 1500m tonight.

Ingebrigsten describing Jake Wightman as a 'lesser athelete' really irked Josh Kerr and he has been after him for the slight aimed at his mate ever since. The 2 are opinionated, confident bordering on arrogant and can't stand each other. Kerr has definitely irked the former and got him to bite on and off the track in the past but it's tonight that matters.

If I was pushed I'd say Ingebrigsten will edge it but it's going to be fascinating to watch.

Wow.

The two main protagonists got so caught up racing each other they missed the danger tanking up the inside. You could see Ingebrigsten was done from 300m out, was desperately looking up at the big screen approaching that last bend and was checking over his shoulder 200 out. Kerr had to be smarter. Think there was a bit of ego at play.

Great run from Hocker though. Timed hisbrun to perfection and never got into a battle too early.

Tbf I'm maybe being a bit harsh on Kerr. That was a PB and a British record; literally the best he has ever run.

He seems genuinely happy with his medal and was straight over to congratulate the winner. There is definitely a bit of game playing going on with him.

I still maintain 1500m is the hardest race going. The best part of a mile at a flat out pace. The training regimes of these guys is insane in terms of volume and intensity.

Though that decision was a bit harsh on him. Mexican guy was out on his feet with 90 seconds left.

I'm disappointed there hasn't been many electric Cubans so far this year. Usually you get 2 or 3 who are as slick as they come and light the place up. Seems to be the Dominican Republic stealing the show this year.

Having looked at the rerun of the end of the 1500 mtrs, Ingebrigsten actually gave Hocker the race. He was on the inside and he moved out almost into lane 2 to block Kerr but gave Hocker a free run on the inside. He had the stamina and opportunity to win on the inside and did well. If Ingebrigsten had stayed in the inside lane, Kerr would have won.

Exactly.
But Hocker gambled on that happening, he knew Ingebrigsten had to move wide to force Kerr to run further so I would say he took his chance rather then being handed it. At 200 m I called it for Hocker, he had the perfect position, at 100 I thought Kerr had it. By the end I thought Kerr was going to get Bronze rather than Silver. Race of the games so far.

I like Michael Johnson when it comes to analysis. No bull from him. When he thinks something is good then he'll say so, if he thinks someone got it wrong he will call it out.

I don't mind Paula Radcliffe. Her delivery is a bit grating but her analysis is usually pretty good and she definitely add things the layman might miss. It's something most athletics pundits do, little tells or tactical changes you might miss. It beats the football insight of 'what he's done there is hit a shot and it's hit the post'. Aye thanks we all saw that, very insightful.

Yep, totally agree about Johnson, he's very good at analysis and was one of the most brilliant runners of all time. It's always interesting listening on his take on races rather than only listening to the British perspective. Was really interested in what he had to say about one of the most fascinating races to come, the 400 metres hurdles for women.

Always enjoy listening to Michael Johnson, very knowledgable, and has a great way of sharing that, and helping you see little stuff.

It’s sometimes a bit funny listening to the beeb’s lead presenters talking about how successful the British guests were, like Denise Lewis or Jessica Ennis-Hill, which they are, but never mention they’re also sitting beside one of the most successful runners ever, and one time holder of a number of world records.

I also like that Johnson, and the others to be fair, are quite humble despite their achievements, and always shine the light on the current competitors. It’s not like that in some other sports

Interesting to see what she does.

She'd be brilliant over the flat but I wonder if that 49 second barrier over hurdles tempts her.

She was brilliant tonight; Bol is world class and was beaten from a mile out, it was mental as well as physical.

Where were you when she lost at the Olympics 4 years ago? Or the other times she has lost fights? I definitely haven't taken any side in this debate as it tends to get very toxic but as I see it the victim in all of this is the woman who won gold. Some would argue the biological females who missed out on a gold or a medal are victims too. It's such a shame for the boxer who probably didn't know she was biologically male until she was a teenager.

I probably er on chromosome testing, if you are biologically male you can't compete against females. Her and Caster Semenya as biological males could have male aspects in their body shape bone density ect, if there is a chance of an advantage its unfair. It can't just be on testosterone at a certain point unless you test every day from in utero.

I notice the Canadian 4 x 100 metre winners came out doing the x sign that the loosing boxers have started to do post defeat so I doubt this will go away.

Agreed.

Lin Yu-ting the Taiwanese boxer wins gold. Two of the 6 female weigh classes won by biological males. The odds on two mix sex people winning the 6 must be mind numbingly high if there is no advantage

The women’s 1500 metres, what a race that was. Laura Muir ran a personal best and still missed out. Delighted to see Georgia Bell’s decision to go with the pace rewarded with a bronze.

Cracking race. They started off very quick and Laura had a lot to do.
We never got to see the Kenyan getting her third gold. Shame but the beeb does like to focus on the studio couch potatoes instead of the actual events.

The fear that women's sport will see ideology trump biology is, I think, a justified one.

Yep way too much pundit discussion rather than showing the action.

Great seeing the athletes dancing about as they enjoy the closing ceremony. This has been a brilliant Olympics, so many highlights to look back on.
I’ve enjoyed it all, even the Break dancing. I’m going to launch a campaign to recognise Dad dancing as a sport, my last chance to become an Olympian. :greengrin

The closing ceremony has taken a bit of a turn…I didn’t see Hazel Irvine commenting on the merits of Air’s Moon Safari album and the Red Hot Chilli Peppers coming.

Not sure about your last sentence. It's a criminal, rather than a civil, matter.

However, "a prominent French legal blogger wrote on X, that it is unlikely Mr Musk or Ms Rowling would face prosecution, as French penal law doesn’t apply to acts committed outside of France against foreign nationals."

That's not right. She's filled a suit of online bullying and racism. No one is being asked to prove their sex or prove anyone else's sex and no-one has been charged

Sorry. Had believed it was a defamation suit.

Don't expect anything to come from it of course.
