Apparently there was a pretty serious riot in Leeds last night but struggling to find out what the reason was.

Anybody know what caused it?

:dunno:

:dunno: The West Yorkshire force has confirmed the unrest in Harehills was sparked after officers went to assist social workers dealing with a child protection issue and came under attack.

Find it a bit strange that should result in a riot though. I can't help thinking there must be more to it, .... like spreading of misinformation as to what was going on.

Apparently it was in a Roma community, but don't know more than that.

There's videos of the four kids getting taken away from the family. Rumours one child had injuries that social services were concerned about. The Roma community burnt down a number of vehicles in protest. A horrible situation kids getting removed, sometimes it's the correct decision hopefully it is here

Apparently parents left kids home alone. One is a baby. Baby was dropped by a child and suffered head injuries. Social services removed children.

I watched an interview with the dad and got lost.

Some of the videos on social media are shocking with people openly smashing police cars with scooters and other items.

If there is no attests from all the footage for the criminal damage, then the police are well and truly scared of certain communities and areas.

Worrying times if so

There will be arrests though. There is no indication there won’t be.

Certainly there should be but I’m dubious. Doubt we will hear anything about them even if there is any

Why would you be dubious? Is there any cases previously where rioter have not been arrested? Or if there has been secret arrests with no trial?

It’s a pretty high bar to take someone’s kids off them. It’s for the kid’s protection so **** knows what was going on.

The London riots a few years ago was like some mass jailing event in Soviet Russia.

Bristol riots and the Colston statue toppling down here in Bristol was almost laughable in their “zeal for justice”.

Let’s not forget the “disgraceful scenes” in May 2016 where our own support was targeted.

They would have been visited, then visited on several occasions, informed of the consequences when it becomes a child protection issue, all the evidence would have been put before a multi disciplinary meeting where it would have been demonstrated that every effort had been made to have the children's needs met within the home environment, it would need to be shown that the abuse or serious neglect continued and that for the protection of the children they had exhausted any other way of supporting their needs other that taking them into care for their own protection. Before the decision to do this would have been made.

Exactly. Social Workers don’t just make it up as they go along. There is a process, involving significant scrutiny and risk assessment. Children are never removed without a lot of deliberation in the modern age.
