I noticed last night that Martin Boyle was announced and referred to as the “Player of the Match”.

Don’t recall the term being used last season, so is this just simply just the correct terminology to use in 2024 to represent modern thinking or is it a “Loony Left” dictat to go hand in hand with an incoming Labour Government?

They’ll be coming for the pies next!

It doesn't hit the ear right. It's men's football, man of the match is fine.

2024 when some clown might be offended if a man gets called a man. It just doesn’t sound right.

Americanism, giant foam hand pointing to the player of the match in the soccer game ......

Once each of 4 quarters then Boyler gets chased by the cheerleaders, way to go Hibernians.......

Player of the match has crept in over the last 2 or 3 years. All the Euros games announced a POTM and it was the same in the EPL last season (and possibly before that).

I don't really see why we can't have a man of the match and a woman of the match depending on the game but it's not a hill I am going to die on. It's no big deal and has zero impact on my life one way or another. I suppose a player of the match gives a degree of uniformity so that might be the reason. Saves sponsors getting 2 lots of merch printed up and whatever.

It does seem OTT when everyone in the match is a man, why would it cause offence? Also can you use the term “man on”? Still hear it at youth level girls football and funnily enough no one is offended.

Sounds like something a Hearts supporter or a Reform UK voter would say. Bet you are delighted with MM in post. Either adapt or get left behind…hahahahaha Far left loonies are out tonight. Looks like your the one getting left behind as most of the world are sick of this nonsense. Crying over someone saying man of the match incase they "identify" as another made up gender. Crazy.

If there's one thing you can be certain of in the modern age it's that someone will find offense in absolutely anything.

This is only going one way. People getting offended about people maybe being offended with no proof that anyone is offended.Probably best left here. Thread closed.
