View Full Version : Switch of Dug Out

So it’s been mentioned a few times both at the game and on here.

Hibs home dug out this evening was the usual away dug out.

I wonder what the thoughts are about this, from both internally at hibs and from us fans.

When I was on the tour of the stadium a few years back it was said the away dug out was the furthest from their changing room… some sort of psychological ploy they said….. so if that was true then what’s the theory behind switching???

My mate posed the query that as we always shoot towards the Famous Five in the second half it maybe gives our management team more of a chance to coach the players more closely….

Anyone else have a theory?

The distance surely can’t be that great that we can say one dugout is further away from the away dressing room than the other. They come out the tunnel and take a step right or left

Could it be as simple as the dugout on the same side as the players warm up. Stops player walking across the opposing dugouts and 4th official

Pretty sure it was miller that changed it so hibs had the dug out nearest the linesman so they could get in his ear & sway desisions

Stops the Assistant ref being in the view of SDG from what I was told. Back to the traditional sides

As I said, only repeating what was told on the tour…. Even a matter of a few extra steps is a psychological advantage they said.

I guess now the 4th official is more in the firing line for managers to vent their ire towards. Maybe not such an advantage as it once was.

Is getting at the linesman likely to be as effective as in the past, with VAR taking a second look at the big calls?

Probably better having a few specially selected casuals standing with their arms folded at the entrance to the VAR offices as the officials turn up for work these days if we're wanting to get at the officials? And then having some particularly unpleasant characters surrounding the screen where the ref goes to take a second look? Hearts appear to have invested in a whole stand full of reprobates.

Why still seats in the standing section? Is it a UK law or something that you can't stand directly behind the goals?

The last manager to do that was John Hughes for the 2009/2010 season. Calderwood changed it back. I forget Yogi’s reasoning at the time.

Yeah I was just going to post that. Can't recall what the reason was but it made no sense!

Safe standing needs to give every fan their own “space” and you still can’t officially stand in European games so need to be able to switch back to seating for those games. Those style seats give us that option.

Listening to what Gray said, it might have been had we lost. Looks like it will remain permanent now though.

Makes sense with subs warming up that end and away subs warming up other end - saves people constantly running past and obstructing view.

Actually think getting in the ear of the assistant can often have a detrimental affect.

As well as the change in dugouts, the other thing I noticed last night was the clock on the scoreboard continued after regulation time. Was always a bugbear that there was x minutes injury time but you didn't know how long was left of that. Hopefully that continues too.

I noticed that too. I always thought that it wasn’t allowed to show more than 90.

No idea where I got that from though - maybe just a presumption seeing as it didn’t!

Makes sense really.

It was a nice little oddity that’s been around for decades but all things have their time and I’m kind of pleased that Gray feels it’s time to normalise the set up.

It is probably more so the 4th official that gets it in the ear these days rather than the assistant. This dugout is closer to the 4th official. That might be a disadvantage, mind you as he might be more likely to hear things said in the hibs dugout
