It's so sad to see how far the West Indies have fallen. I grew up with them as the super power in cricket. I remember the "blackwash" series in 84. Some of the greatest batsmen and bowlers ever in the 70s and 80s

Very inexperienced lineup particularly in English conditions.

England 54-5 in the latest test, pretty poor batting performance so far to say the least.

I take it there's not so much money in cricket in comparison to athletics, when I consider just how good the West Indies were, nowadays they're very average in comparison. They were so good to watch in the 60's, 70s and 80s.

Players on central contracts will be making decent enough money and the money in Limited Overs/T20 leagues throughout the world is massive, I've no idea about the financial aspects of athletics.

It’s not the money. Kids in the West Indies, like kids the world over, would now rather play football than cricket.

Also their tv channels are dominated by us sports. Money invested in the sports and facilities would be a big factor also.
