Found it really refreshing that refs are not buying as many soft fouls/ play acting this tournament. Players throwing themselves to the floor are left looking a bit daft and have little option but to get up and get on with it ( which they mostly are)

Hope this transfers to domestic leagues, with more playing advantage too.

Big question though is still if they do take this approach will it be applied equally!

Have also enjoyed how VAR has been used much less. In Scotland it’s almost a case of any contact and it’s a foul. At the euros they let a good bit go. It really highlights how far off the standard our referees are.

I like the way it’s captains only that are meant to speak to refs.

As we know it’s some of the best refs at the Euros plus the English refs who seem to be involved in 2 games with the longest VAR checks.

There is also a reason there is no Scottish refs at the tournament mainly because they aren’t very good.

I agree I'd say 75% of games the ref has been excellent and let it flow.

Only a couple I can think of (England Serbia & Turkey Portugal 1st 45+) where it was ruined as a neutral as everything seemed to be a foul.

At the end of the day it will be…..penalty Sevco!

The refereeing and the way they're using VAR has been fantastic so far, just goes to show that it can be done.
We'll still get the same old rubbish next season though, there's a reason there's no Scots refs at the Euros.
Penalty to the rangurs.

They can try it here, as usually it'll be utilised to benefit two clubs, with one of those still seen as more important than the other.

Would make no difference as some others have also said, they cater for the 2 cheeks, end of.

Important to remember these are real refs. We don't have any of those.

Thats something they could bring in here

Exactly.

The fact that we have a refereeing team from outwith Europe (Argentina) participating but no Scottish representation should be a wake up call to the SFA.

That's not related. The Argentine official would be there regardless. It's an exchange scheme with south America.

I wouldn't let our officials do an under 7s game though. Standard is at an all time low.

I thought the standard or refereeing had been great - helped by the directive stopping players surrounding ref / making TV gestures at every opportunity - aided bt the speed and efficiency of how VAR has been operated .... at least until the very poor job ref & var did at Scotlands 'penalty'

If we could have a similar slick VAR system that would be great since VAR is obviously here to stay. Won't happen.

Similarly, the healthy scepticism towards players who writhe about in agony and go down in the box would have to extend to goings-on at Ibrox and Parkhead. Definitely won't happen.

Is there no sense on irony on this thread that it was a bad referee decision and lack of VAR that meant Scotland never, at least got a review, of the penalty decision on Sunday night?

We are so far behind the rest of Europe in every aspect of football it's embarrassing.

I did post this prior to the game...and it was an overall assessment, of course you're still going to get errors but the overall standard has been great and allowed more robust challenges and greater flow in games.

Surely we must have young refs coming through who want to manage games in this way?!

Refereeing has been excellent overall. I also like the rule that only the Captain can approach the Ref. Typical that the most contentious decision of the tournament so far involved UK Referees (Holland France "Off-side" goal decision)!
