I liked the fact club colours were almost totally absent.
Spoke to a guy in Cologne in a Hearts top, a guy in a really smart blacked out Queen of the South strip and saw a guy in the purple Hibs kit and another in a retro Dundee Utd top. Other than that I didn't see any club colours from Scotland fans.
Maybe it's just me but I often have preconceptions about the opinions of fans from other clubs and it's hard to bury them when chatting. It was interesting to speak to guys as Scotland fans and hear their opinions without any club prejudices (at least initially).

Cant say I've really seen many club colours while over here.
No club colours/chat is definitely for thr best on Scotland trips.

You see a few but honestly not that many.
Changed days from my first Scotland away day, when a group of Huns were singing their sectarian ditties in Trafalgar Square.
Thankfully we've moved on from that.

For those of an older generation is the consensus that previously in the 80s and 90s there was a considerably large Rangers following with Scotland and that has now changed?

In my two separate groups (which do combine), the make up is
Rangers 3
Falkirk/Leeds 3
Airdrie 2
Hibs 2
Patrick Thistle 2
Celtic 1
St Mirren 1
Dunfermline 1

Mentioned it on another thread but I'd say a large number of both Celtic and Rangers fans these days don't pay much heed to the national team. In my experience the Rangers support started to drop off with the advent of the Souness era in the mid to late 80s.
There was also a spate of Rangers players (Barry Ferguson being one) who 'retired' early from Scotland duties and were pretty disrespectful about it.
It's a good thing to be spared the type of stuff you mention as well as things like Celtic fans bringing along Palestinian flags. It means the Scotland support has a friendlier only here for the party vibe without the presence of fans who spend most weeks singing about anything but football.
England get lumbered with this sort of guff because large numbers of Chelsea/Millwall-type fans are big on the national team.

Rangers and Celtic also felt more like Scottish teams back then and a lot of their players were national team stalwarts like Danny McGrain, Tom Forsyth, Derek Johnstone and Davie Cooper. In fact I'd say Cooper was the last player representing Rangers who made you feel they were as much part of the Scotland set-up as any other team.

I think that's true, yeah.
There's obviously a lot of Rangers and Celtc fans that follow Scotland but, IMO, the percentage of Scotland Fans with those affiliations is a lot lower than it was in the 80s.

Being English and following England id say the majority of English support is "provincial" and i think that is the same of Scotland. As far as club shirts go, wouldnt get many on match days but if you were away for a tournament or a few days for an away match you might get a few on non match days.
I watched the Hungary Switzerland match in the pub wearing Hibs colours to be greeted several times (quite naturally I guees) with how do I think Scotland will do . . Which i answered but with the caveat that i was English. Usually greeted with a confused "oh".
Watched last nights game wearing a navy with white trim Lyle and Scot shirt. Got a similar responce.
Attention seeker I know 😃

Many years since I've been to a Scotland game but I remember being in France in 1998 and we got into bother with some utter tools who turned out to be yams and took objection to one of our group wearing his Hibs tartan kilt. One of them in particular almost brought the whole thing to blows. Utterly ridiculous. So in that particular instance preconceptions were accurate.

The SSC ask which club you support when signing up and release the results. As far as members go, it’s as expected considering Scotland pay in Glasgow and the OF have such large supports.
1. Rangers
2. Celtic
3. Aberdeen
4. Hearts
5. Hibs
However, as someone who travels to most away games, II’m sure if you were to poll regular travelers, the results would be very different. Possibly due to every other club not being guaranteed foreign trips every year but my experience is a great mix of all clubs with some ‘smaller’ clubs very well represented. I’m on the committee of the Edinburgh Tartan Army. We’re made up mostly of Hibs & Hearts fans but have a large number of Aberdeen fans and many others.
It’s been great to see very few club shirts alive here in Germany. Those I have seen appear to be worn by you g team or folk on their first away trip.

Not discussed club football as here to see Scotland. First experience of Tartan Army and hugely impressed in Cologne. Not seen a club strip yet.

Went to Italia 90 Scotland v Brazil Turin sat beside this cockney lad wearing a Scotland top who spent the whole game screaming in my ear ‘ C’mon Dukey ! C’mon Dukey ! ‘
Turned out he was a Chelsea fan but loved Gordon Durie that much had decided to switch allegiance and follow Scotland and go to all Scotland games in Italia 90 on his own
Was a great kid and was delighted I was a Hibby and could share his love for Jukebox who was a sight to behold in full flight
Great player

Not only is it preferable to not wear domestic colours abroad it is best to not even talk about local teams and commit to the Scotland flag and team no matter what allegiance you have. 🏴👍
