Given the wide remit that Malky has taken on, the need to recruit and support the right people behind the scenes and guide a fledgling Head Coach, should we believe that he will be heading up player recruitment as well?

Given the scale of work required, and the fact that the transfer window is already open, that seems to be a tall order.

Head of recruitment is a role at other clubs, should we recruit one at Hibs?

No, not with MM at the club.

Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and Hearts all have a Head of Recruitment reporting into their Sporting Directors.

Why is our recruitment such a part-time role that our Sporting Director can do both jobs in his first month in post?

I guess our squad must be in a better place. 🤔

Probably because Ian Gordon is still sticking his massive nose into these things

If Iain Gordon has anything to do with recruitment then we'll continue to be a shambles for years to come. The nepotism in appointing in a role at our club with not a shred of experience has been one the single worst things to happen to our club in the last decade.

Spot On. Sporting Director has a wide ranging role beyond just recruitment. He'll be overseeing our Academy, Sports Science department etc. We need an experienced guy in as head of recruitment reporting to Malky and also need to let that guy revamp our recruitment team and bring in experienced people who know what they are doing, rather than being a member of the Gordon family.

I agree. We need competence and accountability in that role and, to my mind at least, that person should report into Malky rather than be Malky given the scope of his own job.

Do we have a record of the players Ian Gordon has signed? One looks to be on the way out for a sizeable fee, in Youan, what others has he recommended?

Was Vente one ?

I’m sure McDermott was credited with that Vente.

Youan and Maolida were two very good finds though, be interesting to see how we found them. I imagine the vast majority are a genuine team effort on the recruitment side based on stats etc and then watching them on Wyscout.

Hopefully more like those 2, NMW etc than Bojang.

From the latest interview with MM it sounds like they are still sorting out the recruitment team

“We need to have a structure that works, making sure that there are reporting lines, and that it's not a scattergun approach," says Mackay. "Ultimately, everything ends up through a technical board, which I will lead. Myself, the head coach, [new technical performance manager] David Marshall, and the recruitment team – which we’re still in the process of moving around“

Who knows?!

It may well be, but i think that recruitment is such an important area that it needs a dedicated head rather than being one aspect of someone’s wider role.

It’s been our biggest gap for years, and so i wouldn’t be taking any chances with it, I would want a head of department that has plenty expertise, experience and a track record of recruiting good players.

We could do with a dedicated Head of Recruitment in the mould of John Park.

How many layers do we need? It already looks like a small empire has been built, the people in position now should be more then enough to get the playing staff sorted out.

Clubs normally try and get a dedicated HOR, somebody with experience built at a decent level. The role reports to Malky and works alongside the Head Coach. The number of layers doesn't increase in any way.

I don't see anybody on the management side who is capable of recruiting players for the positions we need to fill.

Failure to appoint somebody will simply result in us slippping even further behind our rivals IMO.
