This is what the honours system should be about, recognising “ordinary” people (though what Stevie does is far from ordinary) who achieve great things to help others. I’ve never been so happy to hear about someone getting an honour, it’s so richly deserved. Congratulations Stevie, you are a genuine hero.

Not seeing any politicians mates and donnors in this round-up. Maybe a bit different seeing it's the King's birthday honours list?
Alan Bates is another especially well deserved award.

For our younger fans, can someone summarise the evolution of Dnipro Kids through to the years leading up to and including the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Preferably from someone who was involved.
:not worth:not worth:not worth
Or maybe provide a link to the story.

Congratulations, Stevie. It's great to see your work work recognised, and equally great to see how your original goodwill gesture has evolved over time into an organisation that has been able to relocate and support a community living under grave threat. Hats off to you and everyone else who have made it happen over the years. :top marks

Well done Stevie, FWIW and putting the fantastic work you and your colleagues did with the Dnipro Appeal to one side, the trip back into Ukraine to get those kids out at that time deserves a Knighthood, you literally saved kids lives without any shadow of a doubt.

Or maybe provide a link to the story.
I’ve done guest speaker talks about the history of Dnipro Kids, and the evacuation, and I struggle to squeeze that in to allotted 30-40 minutes .. I’ll try and give a short summary.
04/05 season - European qualification
FC Dnipro in the draw (where?? 🤷*♂️)
Talk of doing something for kids/school/orphanage ala Tartan Army
I get the ball rolling with others and we make contact with TB Sanatorium in the city.
What follows is a coming together of Hibs supporters to deliver something in 2 weeks that might normally take over a month .. turnstile collection (£2,500), donations, food, drink, travel bags, football strips, airplane hold space (free), and much much more.
Supermarket sweep on arrival, to spend the £2,500 on much needed items
Presentation on the morning of the game, with supporters/organisers, club officials and media present.
On to the game .. pumped out the cup .. on the bevy .. flight home.
Now that is where the story was meant to end .. but ..
A combination of circumstances, luck, and an amazing grassroots Hibs support .. the story continued ..
The Dnipro Appeal Charity was born (officially registered in November 2005) and the story of Dnipro Kids began.
For more than 16 years this Hibs supporters charity supported hundreds of Ukrainian children, making real differences in their lives and giving them lasting memories.
Initially at the TB Sanatorium, then onto some large orphanages (50-100 children) and through the countries transition from large state orphanages to the smaller “family type” orphanages of today.
Thanks to the generosity of supporters, some fantastic individuals that helped with committee and fundraising over the years, and a feeling amongst supporters that this was OUR charity, the work of Dnipro Kids took us right up to the full scale invasion in February 2022.
Once again, when the backs were to the wall and time was against us, the Hibernian family stepped up and evacuated Ukrainian children from a city under attack from missiles and on the brink of a siege. The fight moved from Ukraine to Westminster as we fought to get our Ukrainian children to our city. Up against an anti-immigration stance, and no willingness to change that, we applied pressure through media, House of Commons (Ian Blackford), and Home Office.
Eventually government caved and the Dnipro Kids were the very first group of displaced Ukrainians to enter the U.K. (a couple of weeks later they announced the Homes for Ukraine scheme).
A lot more to it than that, it’s an amazing story when told in full, but that should be enough for the time being 😉

Congratuations to you (and your organisation)
Direct help, and your actions in response to the war situation were exemplary
Well deserved recognition for a fantastic job Steven has been doing. We can all get hung up on the performance of our club, and rightly so, but things like this put things into a bit of perspective. In the grander scheme of things, we could all be in a far worse place and have a lot more to concern us than how our football team is performing.
