Two excellent interviews with Malky Mackay on the Hibs Observer. The first one would have you very optimistic about Davie Gray and underlines just how highly rated he is by those who work with him.

The second one really outlines the mess our squad is in. Kind of tempers expectations around signings this summer. It still sounds like the money from Bournemouth has certain conditions attached.

Well worth a read.

Good information. Malky letting us know behind a paywall, the place is a mess. And ain’t a quick fix.

This should be on the hibs website. For all hibs fans to read .

Google paywall bypass and paste the article link.

Apologies if not aloud.

Another really good interview.

Seems to see things for exactly how they are. No one will be pulling the wool over his eyes re potential signings etc that st clearly not good enough

He’s not saying anything earth shattering but it’s encouraging he’s quickly come in and recognised the issues most have us have been discussing for a long time. The fact is we still have too many players under contract who are contributing heehaw, moving on at least some of them will be his biggest challenge in the short term IMO.

HibsObserver is entitled to charge. It's a business.

Is the point not more that it would have been nice to get this level of detail and comms directly from the club?

It’s definitely fair that the Observer are paid for their work but i don’t think that’s the complaint.

Edit: apologies to Chipper if I’ve misunderstood the point. It wouldn’t be the first time. 😁

He’s done an interview with the club already though. No sure how often folk think Tech Directors/DoF’s etc should be coming out and speaking to us

We aren't getting money from Bournemouth, it's from Foley and he has already paid for the shares so it's in our bank account.

Spot on . Hibs need to tell the fans what’s going on . Not a paywall . Thgs tge chairman, CEO and now sporting director communicating poorly to the fans

Both affordable to all.

And I’m no even going to bother replying to the bit about him not being an employee yet 😂

I watched that one and enjoyed it. The Observer one is fantastic and reflects the change in the short time that Malky has been in post.

I was just clarifying the point that i thought was being made rather than endorsing it, however to answer your question, i think when there’s a lot of change and when the club are in the position we’re in, i think we’re missing a huge trick in how we get fans on board with what’s happening.

We’ve a new Head Coach (no interview yet), a new Sporting Director (interview when announced, prior to starting, nothing since starting), a new Technical Performance Manager (no interview yet).

Above that, there are changes with Tiago Pinto s President of Sporting Operations at Bournemouth (with Foley starting this will incorporate work across the group) and a new President at Black Knight FC (again very clearly set out that it impacts us). There’s been nothing - no word at all - about what this means for us from Hibs.

Now is the time to be over the top with the communication with the fans. A new start, new structure, new beginning - get behind the new set up, here’s why you should be excited about it, here’s realistically when you can expect to see a big difference, here’s our expectations on SDG (so don’t be shouting for his head when he’s not hitting your expectations) etc.

To me, that’s a massive positive for the club that we just aren’t seeing.

Edit: should acknowledge that i know the media guys have been on holiday (as have most of the club at this time of year) so there will be practical reasons hence this isn’t a massive criticism of anyone, just my thoughts in response to the question!

He was asked for an interview. He gave one. He was asked questions and he answered. If everything said in an interview with the media had already been posted on the Hibs website what would be the point in any journalists conducting interviews? Hopefully we can call off the search party.

Better to share with all than just a few thorough? If there is key messaging to the fans needing to be done it should probably be done through free to all channels.

At least it keeps the pressure of DG who will be able to focus on preparing the team for the season.

I like Malky's interviews so far. He's clearly laying out a recruitment philosophy and setting expectations for several transfer windows into the future.

It's going to take us a couple of seasons to rebuild.

This sums it up perfectly. The club appears to be making all the right changes to fix the problems of the last few years and communicating these changes would be helpful.

The majority of fans won’t be on .net and could easily be unaware of most of this.

Wonder who the senior member(s) of staff were who "over stepped the mark" with staff at the training ground.

Malky Mackay does speak well but he's not the first to do so, hope it translates to success on the pitch unlike some of the previous ones.

I wasn't sure if he was referring to someone at Hibs or at another club he has been at.

I got the impression he was referring to elsewhere in his career.

He does talk well but he puts meat on the bones of everything he says and it really does give the impression that decisions at the club are being well thought out at the moment.

I know it could just be talk but I think we are in good hands with him.

The Observer has been a welcome addition to online stuff. Their podcast is possibly one of the best - arguably the best - and probably no doubt down to the journalistic skills and contacts of PMcP.

Clearly trusted enough to travel on the preseason trip but aren't the Pravda wing of club communications. You still get a sense of their independence in their work. Enjoyed some of their analysis as well as these interviews

Not that I always appreciated that when Sean was trying to educate me back in the day!
