One Day Soon

I was just reminded of magpie1892 looking through some old PMs and it got me thinking about some others I haven't seen here for, perhaps, years. Not those who have passed away but those who just went silent.
Are we allowed to ask for word of what happened to these posters or how they are? Beefster hasn't posted here for years now. I know some were mutually consented but many others just seemed to stop. Liverpool Hibs would be another.

I think a lot of people just move on.
I posted about it recently but the way people interact online has changed massively even over the last 10-15 years. I used to be all over the match day threads on here but now I'm far more likely to discuss the games in a couple of WhatsApp groups I'm in. You have to throw Twitter into the mix as well, it's far more suited to a quick, reactionary comment and whilst it may be challenged it's much less likely to get the 3rd degree in the way posters, sometimes old but predominantly new, get on here.
Of course the site has seen a rise in that style of posting as well. The smartphone lends itself to posting with a bit less thought than what would have been required when you had to use a desktop/laptop to log on and post. I daresay some people just don't want to interact in that way and lament the 'good old Days' and that has put them off. Fwiw I still think there is some great chat on here, there are a fair few posters I always look out for because you know that whether you agree with them or not they will write something worth reading. I don't even mind the reactionary stuff tbh, I find the smart comments and borderline nasty digs about posters intellect, age or whatever far more irritating and it's often people who offer very few opinions of their own making such comments.
I spoke with an old poster on here at Hampden the other night. I hadn't seen him for years. He was saying he still reads but just doesn't feel the urge to post anymore. He found it almost addictive and the desire to have the last word was getting too much so he just took a break and didn't come back.
It happens. I used to drink in the same pub every Saturday for years, I couldn't tell you the last time I was in. The pub is still broadly the same, nothing happened that made me stop going. It's just something I used to do and somewhere I used to go that I don't anymore. I suppose stopping visiting a particular site is similar.

Funny I was thinking the same the other day, I haven't seen border hibbie posting in ages, also recently hobo Harry has gone silent which is a worry as the weather problems around Houston have been severe, hopefully all OK.

I think it’s more likely Hobo isn’t posting as frequently due to not finding the site as enjoyable or as informative as it once was. PB outlined some valid reasons and there’ll be more on top of that for others.
There’ll be plenty that have taken a back seat or chucked it but don’t feel the need to do an exit announcement or have a dig on the way out 👍
The way she goes.

Funnily enough was thinking the other day of Sir David Gray and C Murdock hope they are both ok ?
What I have found ( just my petty moan )is it is the same threads rinse and repeat every few months with the same posters beating out the same agenda
Anyway Rocky forever :greengrin

Excellent post PB, totally agree. I used to be on daily, not now. I have an opinion about certain topics and others will have a different opinion, sometimes I'm right sometimes they are. Sometimes I have really learnt some interesting stuff on here and sometimes I can pass on information that might be interesting or useful to others. But there's too many cliques, and trawlers who have no interest in the original subject started by the opening post but just want to argue or nitpick. It puts people off.

I have a small list of 'friends' on here (I wonder why? :greengrin) and one of them, Bunter, hasn't posted for years.
Used to be a stalwart of the Word Association Game in The Dug Out back in the day. Always wondered what happened to him.

Feel that way myself at times, you hesitate to post because there is often a pile on if people disagree with you. As you say way she goes.

Some posters actually change their usernames too and still post.

I've been wondering what's happened to Mick O'Rourke for quite a while too. Especially when there's been many threads which I'm sure would've been of interest to him, but he hasn't contributed to them.
I know his health hadn't been too great, so I'm hoping he's alright.

Aye Bunter was really funny. Think that he used to get the Carlton bus so some will know if he's still around.
I miss Snooky, he stopped posting due to the negativity and he was also also fed up with these posters who had to get the last word as PB was mentioning.
