View Full Version : Right now, gut feeling of where we finish next season

We’re in that “between manager” limbo right now. David Gray appears the front runner but there doesn’t feel like a huge swell of excitement should that turn out to be the case.
Will there be a BK backed transfer war chest? Will some of the favourites still be here next season? Will we see a curve ball and a surprise managerial candidate end up in the hot seat? What kind of squad will be attempting to negotiate a passage through the League Cup group stages?
Things may well become clearer in the next week or so, but if you were a betting man - where do you put your money for next seasons league placing?

Second, first if we build the indoor pitch. 😂

I’ve went for 4th. I think next season will level out and see the 3 teams with the 3rd - 5th largest budgets successful secure the European spots. I feel like Hearts will get off to a stronger start than us which will be enough to keep us from 3rd.
Our current squad isn’t great but it’s better than what we saw from them this season. With better management and a few good signings I think we will have a decent to good season.
Out of our current squad
Josh Campbell
Jordan Obita
Luke Amos
Dylan Levitt
Joe Newell
Lewis Miller
Nathan Moriah-Welsh
Elie Youan
Dylan Vente
Martin Boyle
Could all still have a part to play IMO.
Each of them on good form is more than good enough to play in team competing for 3rd and silverware. The problem last season is that we seen them at their best very rarely. If the next manager can get them playing well then we don’t have bad foundations to build on. That’s not to say the first 11 should consist largely of the existing players, in fact I really hope it doesn’t, but there is quality in the squad.
Get the defence sorted with a new GK, at least two new CBs and preferably a new RB as well as a really good midfielder and a decent striker and we’re onto a winner.
Big ask but the BK links already look like providing one CB and a GK so our budget already gets to focus on better quality players for the other positions.
Pull out a wildcard like Maolida to top it all off as every team needs a talisman.

Fifth. Think Aberdeen probably finish third and then it'll be between us and Hearts for the next places.
A few good signings will change that, but as it stands we have a far poorer squad than both Aberdeen and Hearts.
Have absolutely no faith in the direction the club is going, think we'll just avoid a playoff battle. 10th.

I think we'll finish in the bottom half, I put 8th but could be anywhere TBH. Obviously I hope I'm wrong.

Honestly? Anywhere between 3rd to 12th. Non of us has any idea how this new investment will go. We are literally in limbo right now.

No idea. As things stand (current squad) no chance of even a top 6 finish.

As things stand…..well no centre halves to speak of, no head coach, questionable goalies, limited striking power, and a lack lustre midfield and not even a decent rumour of incoming players don’t exactly make the exercise a positive one.
At the moment?

11th is the best we will get from the current squad. I don’t trust the club to sign anyone that will improve much upon that.

If Mackay gets freedom to recruit the manager properly, run the footballing department, recruit freely without interfere from higher up, then 6th.
If we continue as we have been, 12th, potentially a distant 12th at that.
Put 5th ,hoping we gain advantage over killie & st mirren whilst there still in Europe, hertz seem to have bought extra players so they’re not affected playing 2 games a week for ages

8th again. I've no faith in anyone at the club to get it right and feel we will be in a similar situation yet again this time next year.
It'll be a similar season to last though where there is nothing between the majority of the teams in the league. I don't think the standard of the top flight is very good right now and has probably been getting worse year on year since Covid.

Aberdeen should be much improved, Hearts will still be Hearts so it's either 5th or 6th at best.

If we recruit well and sensibly, 4th. If we don’t, honestly, 9/10th. Celtic, Rangers and Hearts will be 1, 2 and 3. Aberdeen/Kilmarnock both have stronger squads at the moment. Recruitment is key over the next few weeks to get this club back challenging 3rd. We need players who can play for us now, not in 2/3 years.

Top 6, with the assumption we bring in 2 new starting centre halfs.
If we don’t, then we’ll be much the same as this season I imagine.

50% think we will get a European spot.
I wonder what the results would have been this time last year.

I’ve gone 6th mainly because we don’t have a manager or an in place squad.
It could be anywhere from 4th to 11th depending on who we get in.

No manager in yet, team is a shambles and moral amongst the support is very low, we're going to be close to either half of the split.

Would depend on the circumstances.
Right now it looks like another season of transition.
New manager, if SDG probably with some ups and downs as you would expect, we need a squad transformation especially defense and goalie, this will like not all happen in summer window.
At best - 5th Probably - 6th or 7th

Anywhere from fourth to ninth depending on who we appoint, who he signs and how well he does.
Voted sixth which is in the middle of that range.

Who knows? It is all a guessing game until we see who the manager is and how serious we are about recruiting properly to back him.
If we follow the same path as the last few seasons then it will be the same result , somewhere between a damp squib 5th and bottom 6. If we really are changing it up then we should hopefully see some progress.
Until you really see the team in action it's hard to judge. The predictions thread last season saw loads of people predicting us to finish 3rd or 4th based on not a lot, myself included because emotion often overrides the cold truth staring you in the face.
Right now I'd be happy with 6th if there were clear signs we were moving forward, tidying up the squad and putting in place foundations to kick on the following season. The last 3 seasons have been pretty shambolic in terms of recruitment, manager turnover, squad size and quality and interactions between fans and club at various levels. If we start to move on from that and see cause for optimism on the park then I'll be right behind it.

My thoughts exactly.
We could recruit well in key positions and have a great season… but of all the players we’ve already got registered for next season I don’t see a 3rd or 4th coming from them.
Chuck into the equation that it could be easier to make a pig’s ear of the recruitment for these positions than get it spot on and the “Hibernian footballing Armageddon” option shouldn’t be off the table.

If it's Gray that gets our job I think we will be alot more organised at the back and hopefully not losing as many daft goals .
I think losing Youan's goals and creativity would be a blow though at the same time if we can ( big if ) invest the money wisely taking in 2 or 3 decent players maybe we'll improve overall as a team .
Abit of a clear out and good recruitment is absolutely essential this summer to give Gray or whoever the manager is every chance to succeed.
We do that and I think we will be in the mix for 3rd again .
Voted for a 4th place finish.

When you look at the overall standard of the league outside the top 2 it's absolutely horrendous that there's every chance of being in the bottom 6 again. I've no idea what to expect but, I'm not exactly looking forward to it.

Good point. Depending on how Hearts and Aberdeen do we don’t necessarily even need to be good to come 3rd or 4th. Just decent will quite possibly do the job.

Right now? If we go with what we have right now we'll end up just above the relegation zone, possibly worse.

8th,because we seem to be waiting for everything to fall into place, like the past few seasons defence, midfield and stikers all needing replaced.I know patience is a virtue but come on it,s been like that for a while now.All in my opinion though, sorry.

As things stand just now I've voted 6th and even that's being optimistic.
Unless they lose Shankland Hearts will at least be as strong as they were last season. Aberdeen simply can't be the car crash they were and they have already sorted out the manager's job, with a guy who on paper at least looks capable.
If Dundee, St Mirren and Killie maintain their form and hold onto, or even improve, their squads they will still be thinking top 6
You have to think Dundee United will be more of a factor than Livvi were.
As for our squad. It failed massively last season and so far our only movement has been to lose an experienced centre back and a wee guy who would still have been a capable sub at LB or midfield. We have lost ALF who at least looked up for it when he came on or started.
We don't have a manager.
If you repeat this poll on the eve of the first day of the season and we haven't massively improved on that then I will still be saying 6th ... with an underlying entitlement to think we could be looking at bottom 2.

Absolutely. Eventually we might strike it lucky and find someone who can drag us out of this mediocrity.

Last game of season. David Gray subs himself on in 93rd minute. Scores from a header to secure 3rd at the expense of Hearts. Jubilation.
