By my reckoning (and I could be wrong with the details), over the season in the league and after the 85 min mark in games we:
Scored 6 which gained us 1 additional point.
Shipped 13 which cost us 11 points.
So a net loss of 10 points (9 before the split).
To me that is a team that mentally can’t win games when it gets to crunch time. Thats what the new manager needs to fix, both behind the scenes and on the park.

There was a time not so long ago, possibly under Lennon or Ross, where it was the complete opposite. I completely agree that this is down to mentality over anything else.

It was definitely a feature this season. I never felt confident of holding on to our lead. A few posters have alluded to over training the players which could be a factor. It's possible they were too tired and losing concentration towards the end of the games, or might be they weren't able to cope with the pressure of holding on to leads. Whatever it is it needs addressed as soon as the new man is in the door.

Takes me back to 02-03 where we seemed to lose countless goals in that last few mins of games

I seem to remember Bernhard Langer saying something quite critical about the myth that golf is a mental game. It’s not - it’s physical and it is skill, and I quite like this mindset.
We just need to defend better. Better defenders, defending better, better tactics to be 2 up instead of 1 up and holding on or having the ball in their half instead of our box.
The “mindset” idea suggests a simple solution to a complex problem ie sign a better captain and the problem goes away. We’re already going to have a new management team so part of the solution is in place.
