My laddie is desperate to do the Liverpool stadium tour during the summer holidays, going to take him down for the day (probably stay overnight in Liverpool) sometime in July, been looking on their website and there are quite a few options for tours, the one being the Stadium and museum tour looks ok but want to make sure he has the best experience possible, not to fussed for meet the legends tour as he won't have a clue who any of them are, has anyone got any recommendations on tour, how long you can expect to be on the tour and where to stay, want to spend some time in liverpool myself and the only thing that bothers me is the wee man moaning at all the walking

I did the tour and visited the museum a few years ago. I think I did the tour quite early (9.30ish) and from memory it takes about an hour. You can then spend as long as you like in the museum afterwards if you book both tours.

I also booked a stadium tour at Goodison Park in the afternoon as you can walk there from Anfield in about 15 minutes. Goodison was more personal I thought as you get taken into the boardroom and various lounges. It’s also worth taking a walk around both grounds, there’s a few murals in the Anfield area and Goodison has some interesting stuff on the outer walls of the ground.

Both grounds can be reached by public bus from the city centre in about 30 minutes, if not less. I stayed at the Adelphi Hotel, not the most modern but ok and close to Lime Street Station.

Both clubs have shops in the city centre and at the grounds.

The Thomas Frost pub equidistant from both grounds does decent food. I think it’s a Weatherspoons.

There's the Anfield Abseil, if your not scared of heights. Here's Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville doing it.

Can only tell you about the stadium tour which is a self guided audio tour where you get a phone sized device with headphones and there are tour guides dotted along the route who you can ask questions. As it is self guided it can last as long or as short as you like (though the length of the queue to get on the pitch is unpredictable) but if you listen to / watch everything on the device it takes longer than the recommended 2 hours.

I made the mistake of sitting down to watch all the videos of all their European exploits and then moving on only to find out not far on there was a massive queue to go through the tunnel to the pitch. Understandably they only allow so many outside at a time. I could have watched the videos whilst in the queue and saved about 30/45 minutes. There was then another queue if you wanted to touch the "This is Anfield" sign before going out. Can't tell you about the museum because we ran out of time.

If you do decide to do the abseil and the stadium tour then I'd recommend doing the abseil first because you know it's an hour for the whole group doing it at that time slot so it's easier to tell when you finish compared to estimating how long the stadium tour will take you. Plus they'll probably not turn you away if you're a bit late for the stadium tour time slot but I'd think they would if you're late for the abseil.

Go as early as you can as I would imagine the queue to go out to the pitch grows throughout the day and I would recommend keeping your plans for afterwards to something flexible timewise and not paid/booked activities as it can be difficult to gauge how long it will take, particularly if you are not starting the tour earlier. Would expect it to get very busy in the summer holidays.

My wife and i went a few months back, we just stayed at a Premier Inn near the docks and it wasn't a long drive from the stadium.

We did the stadium and museum tour, it was very good. We'd done Old Trafford as well and would say the Liverpool one was better. The tour guide is good and there's a neat wee handset you get with headphones for a wee interactive bit in the stand.

Would definitely recommend it.

I did it way back in 94 and met a young player called Robbie Fowler and a Rangers supporting player in the shape of Steve Nicol.

Did they still have Craig Johnston’s surfboard attached to the roof on your tour?

Going to get down at some point and do the Goodieson tour just to see the old lady before the stadium is closed and flattened.
One last glimpse of football from a bygone era.
Couldn't give two hoots for Anfield.

I can't remember seeing it, to be honest.

It would have been a quick walk passed the Everton trophy cabinet……

Thanks all, will go ahead with the museum and stadium tour, seen a Premier Inn in the centre of Liverpool for £50 a night which is incredible value, is midweek though but that doesn't matter, never thought to go to Everton as well but will probably now do that as I really don't have any allegiances to a PL team, my laddie might have something to say about it though as he is Liverpool daft, thanks all for replies and recommendations, Good to get others experiences.

I always stay at hotel tia next to taggy’s. You’ll get it on booking.com - brilliant.

Don’t pay over the odds for the tour, just go the basic one.

Have a belter!

I took my son down a year or so ago and did the basic tour which was great, the guide was very good and had a laugh with everyone, like any tour they will try and fleece you at the end with getting pictures taken with the european cup for £15 and a 10% discount in the club shop where a home top is around £85, take plenty cash
