View Full Version : Why do fans of the Glasgow big two think 'celebrating' means trashing their city?

Compared to Celtic and Rangers, Hibs and Hearts don't win many major honours - but when they do I can't recall any reports of Edinburgh being trashed.

It's no surprise the Old Firm don't do the open top bus thing.

It’s an Old Firm thing. Just look at the mess Easter Road and surrounding areas where they make their to ground is left in after their visits.

Empty bottles and cans, plastic bags, food wrappings all just discarded as they go and urinating up closes and behind bins. They’re just filth in general.

Hearts bring the same number of fans over and it’s never left in the same nick as what the Old Firm do.

Because the majority of old firm fans don’t have to live with the mess they create at these celebrations, they get on the train back to their backward hick villages and small towns and don’t step foot back in Glasgow city centre (or potentially even Glasgow in general for a lot of them) for the rest of the year.

Self entitlement pure and simple. They travel Scotland doing what the hell they like because neither the football authorities or police are willing / able to confront them.

I mean, one of these clubs had a near riot outside it's ground after losing a league cup tie at home just a few months after winning it's 3rd treble in a row. If that isn't self entitlement I don't know what is.

They call it high expectations ... it's not. It's arrogance and an ingrained mindset that nobody apart from them has a right to, or should, win anything.

Celtic fans are now as arrogant and entitled as Rangers fans were when i was growing up in the 90's and 00's. Both as bad as each other now.

My mate's parents live in the area that Celtic trash. Last year, his dad was looking out his window at what was going on and got hit by a flare or firework that someone lobbed up towards his block of flats. He tells me that something similar happened to their neighbour this year. He also saw a police officer get stabbed as part of the "celebrations" this year too.

They've come to dread it.

It doesnt help that the council didn't create any kind of safe space for the celebrations. I was Glasgow on the Saturday night and it was chaos. Celtic had requested various meetings with local planners and were ignored.

Two cheeks of the same arse

Have the good people of Glasgow got to go through it all again on Saturday after the Scottish FA Cup Final or are Celtic bored of winning it already?

This thread is hilarious. City trashed? A drunken rabble leave empty beer bottles and poly bags in the street after a party. Edinburgh Hogmanay? Any foriegn tartan army gathering. I'm sure there was a bit to clear up on Leith Links 8 years ago, from what I remember.

But carry on having a fly dig at Glasgow

Hampden Park itself has looked in better shape than it did 8 years ago this very minute.

Whilst I don't think you're entirely wrong, for a bit of perspective Celtc have won the League 12 times in the last 13 years (I'm not even going to tally up their Cup wins).

We won the Cup for the first time in 114 years - I'm sure many partied hard and some left a mess in their wake after our win.... But to compare that to the pre meditated mayhem in the centre of Glasgow is disingenuous .

I’ll never under what possess a grown man to wear a football top to the airport. 9 times out of 10 it’ll be Celtic or Rangers.

I wear a hibs top for travelling, football tops are light and breathable and if I’m going to be in a flying tin can for a few hours at least I want to be comfortable.

They are flying thousands of miles to sit in a hun bar alongside other identikit fat ageing huns in tops 4 sizes too small round the middle. They don't want to stand out from the crowd[emoji6].

Those celebrations up George Square when Lennon blew ten in row were amazing, were they?

The police have stood by an watched them for years. This is the result. Start putting them behind closed doors for a few weeks and they'll soon learn.

I would suggest you don’t go to the airport the middle of next month as that is all you are going to see 😄

What I don’t understand is why they almost always (both Celtic and Rangers) start scrapping with each other.

I have never seen Hibbys scrapping with each other at celebrations. Weird.

Plenty scrapping goes on with Hibs fans. Ive seen it numerous times inside Hampden. Semi & Finals.

Correct - tens of thousands drinking on the streets all day is always going to see such behaviour unfortunately.

This is the crux of the matter.

The authorities happy to turn a blind eye at their behaviour, for years on end, shouldn't then be surprised by the end result.

They win that often they are numb to the joy of a cup win but they also know they should be celebrating wildly. So they just "do something" to feel it.

A few sporadic flurry of blows between frustrated Hibs fans after too many pints and another Hampden deflation rarely equates to the levels of filth and destruction left in the wake of any gathering of Old Firm fans.

No idea what the southside or city centre were like but I was at the Hillhead end of Byres Road last night & you
would not have known the Final had been on, just a lot of folk enjoying a Saturday night out.
Not a footie strip in sight.

Depends, Bathgate is generally fine I think but Boghall is definitely hick. I reckon hick territory really kicks in somewhere between Bathgate, Whitburn and Armadale with Boghall being a hick enclave to the east.
