When was Hibs.net founded? 2008?

What if the internet & Hibs.net went all the way back to WW2?

I reckon the "Miller Must Go" thread would be the longest sack the manager thread in the history of Hibs.net.

The summer of 1990 would have been a very interesting year for Hibs.net as well, and the MODS would have had their work cut out. The Hands off Hibs thread might have been the longest in Hibs.net history.

The transfer rumours thread between 1987 and 1990 would have been quite interesting also. Including names such as David Platt, Ronnie Rosenthal, Charlie Nicholas, John Robertson.

What other Pre-Hibs.net Hibs.net threads can you think of?

Wasn't it pre-millennium? I've been here since the Mowbray days.

I do remember sitting in an office during a grave yard shift bored in 2006 and asking members of a Hibs Forum who the best player to never play for Hibs was: (a) Gordon Strachan (b) John Robertson (c) Albert Kidd.

Everyone said C.

But I can' remember if that was Hibees Bounce, Hibs.net or other.

If it was Hibs.net, might it be possible to retrieve that thread? Would be interesting to find out what username I used.

There would have been a few saying Jim Duffy just needed a bit more time to make it his own team 😉

bibs.net was around way before the bounce. Think it started as one of those “rivals” boards in the late 90s before morphing into .net in the early 2000s. Someone like Matty or Marinello would be able to confirm.

This forum has been around in one guise or another since 1994.

It was something before rivals - what exactly, I can't remember - but it was a primitive form of talking to each other via the inter web 😃

My earliest Hibs.net memory was trying to get some work done at uni and deciding to go to a different building to usual to use the computers there - too many distractions around the students I did the same course as.

Anyway, stumbled across Hibs.net and got wind of a rumour that we were about to announce a big signing. Someone had put the hint “Frankie Moon” out there, and then we signed Francisco Luna.

That was officially the first (but absolutely NOT the last) time I lost an afternoon to Hibs.net, getting f all of any use done.

I seem to remember everyone was desperate for us to sign Marc Libbra at that time, who’d been decent on loan second half of the season before and there was a bit of disappointment it wasn’t him.

I'm pretty sure I became a member on here in 2002 - think it had only just started back then.

It’s interesting looking back at old threads and awards. A lot of people kicked since/“mutual consent”.

Some of those really are blasts from the past.

Did the Gramo/bath of beans thing originate on here?

That was a bizarre spectacle 😂

I was a member way back in the rivals days in the 1990s - the intent of the forums was to have a place where fans of different clubs could have a bit of banter together. A bit like at the games in the 1960s when the fans were mixed together and you could stand where you liked.

The forums have changed a bit since then, as have the terraces!

I was on it in the Hibs list days and stopped posting after I called out a few regulars as a clique who knew nothing about Hibs...

Came back when .net started and it's been fine since then... mostly 😃

Society in general has sadly become more polarised, so it's not just football or forums.

I've gone to games both home and away with friends who support the opposition and one of us has had to be careful but it's interesting to get a different perspective on what I'm seeing.

My first recollection was the Hibs list in 1998 when you had to downloaded new posts with dial up Internet, posts didnt just appear as they do now, you got a message to say there were x amount of new posts to view. I remember meeting the late Stuart Crowther to hand over £10 for a year's subs. By 2000, it had moved to Rivals, which I think is still around now of sorts in the guise of the footy mad forums. Forums for all teams over the UK and you could flick between various clubs and post as the same person. It was all very new to everyone back then. God, I feel old. 😅

It was a different age. Folk used to have there names as usernames. There wasn’t the toxicity.

Of course the Mercer failed takeover was there - in the main whilst a health skepticism of anything co-owned remained I’d suggest the main focus of animosity was towards that man.

Id suggest the rise of the Romanov era where we see the divisive polarisation of Hibs/Hearts - some fractures that run deep to this day - fuelled by the cesspit of Twitter / X /Facebook and (anti) social media.
And I think the shenanigans then and with Mercer out paid to any steps towards a more conciliatory vibe - although the glimmer of hope has been in the uniting of the supports through tragedy and supporting the local communities on either side.

it is a shame in a way as I certainly value and valued your contributions and others who have dropped off the radar. When we’re so insular it’s not always a healthy thing.

I would rather we bought eleven players rather than just one player that is past his best and requires a tonic before taking to the field. A team requires eleven players otherwise we will get relegated.

That brings back memories, I remember posting the odd thing to a Hibs forum in the late 90s. Must have been the Hibs list.

We used to have a London Hibs Yahoo group that was well used mid 2000s for a few years but that dies a death much like most Yahoo groups.

Heard it from a good source that Willie Groves was seen hanging over the railings outside Hillside Church bragging to everyone that he was spending his backhander.

Unless it was just the drink talking, I think 'The Bould Bhoys' are offering money, which we all know will completely ruin the game.

Erinweb rings a bell for sure. Was an avid reader/lurker in the Rivals days, and into the .net era. Finally signed up after a few years, and became a PM when there was heavy rumours of Riordan coming back and all the good info was on the PM board :greengrin
