I understand the club want to bring the squad age down, but with the upheaval of a further manager dismissal and ruthless player review pending. I think, the so far one club career men, Paul Hanlon and Lewis Stevenson should be kept on as player/coaches/ambassadors.

With their combined career time, successes, charity work, and singular commitment to our club, along with Sir David Gray, in a period of huge change, I can't think of anyone better to inwardly and outwardly represent our club.

Who could better bring new recruits up to speed and understand Hibs ethos better than these guys.

They should be ambassadors, and they would be extremely useful squad players.

What are your thoughts folks?

I think keeping them around some way would be of huge benefit to the club. I would be delighted if Hanlon was given another contract as a player/coach tbh.

They'll come back in some role eventually, but they have more football to play before they hang their boots up for good.

Both should have roles at the club and are still professional enough and more importantly still fit and good enough to be signed players as back up in and around the first team squad. Do not understand just letting them leave the club unless that’s what they want.

I seem to remember a while back that the offer of an ambassadorial role to a Hibs legend of a different era was actually interpreted as a bit of an insult from the man involved.

Paul and Lewis both looked in pretty good shape to me on Wednesday. If they both feel like they want to continue playing then the conversation should simply be whether or not they have what it takes to continue to do so with us. If the decision has been made that they are not, as it seems to have been, then bidding farewell is what must happen.

I think both have playing roles still in them at Hibs, but that’s another story.

Plenty of players have left and then returned to Hibs in recent years. I’d be amazed if both these players don’t return in years to come but for now, if they need to move elsewhere to play then that’s what they must do, with our best wishes.

It's may the type of thing they could do on a part time or voluntary basis. I doubt it would carry as salary. They'll still need to earn a living somewhere, they're young men. Also they should only be Hibs coaches if they're good enough.

They both want to keep playing.

I appreciate their contribution but sometimes player just leave. It happens all over the world, guys give good service, fans show their appreciation then they move on. We don't have the resources to just offer people roles whether they exist or the recipient is qualified for them.

Paul Scholes played 700+ games for Man Utd and won the lot. He doesn't work for them anymore. The world moves on.

By all means give them an ambassadororial role or something in the future or indeed a coaching role if they are the best person for the job but for now if they are moving on then so should we. There is no shortage of people who get Hibs on the coaching staff. David Gray, Darren McGreggor, Eddie May, Boozy, Gareth Evans......
