View Full Version : Apologies. That was badly judged by me.

The thread I deleted was meant to be lighthearted but it was poorly written and clearly didn't come across that way so I'm sorry for my mis-step.

You’ve deleted it now, but I’ve copied my response to your thread because i think its a point thats being missed.

“Assuming the results to your poll in advance, it’s hardly surprising that most fans will continue to attend ER next season, and very few folk will actually boycott the team they love, regardless of what they feel about the appointment. A slightly less skewed poll question might be, “Do you think Hibs could have made a better, less divisive appointment that might have brought more fans together and still get success on the park?”

There will be plenty of support for the appointment now, because its been made already, its done, it’s over, its finished, and if youre a fan you support the team, thats your job. You dont stop going to games except in extreme situations. That doesn’t necessarily mean those folk think that it was the right decision.”

Cool, its hardly a capital offence, we’re all friends here

So how would you answer ‘Do you think Hibs could have made a better, less divisive appointment that might have brought more fans together and still got success on the park?”

I'm apologising for a mistake, not discussing the appointment.

There's already a thread about that. I thoughtlessly tried to start a second. No need for a third.

How can you decide if it's a better appointment without knowing the results of the job yet to be done?

Less divisive doesn't mean better. We could potentially have taken on a lesser candidate in order to avoid any controversy. Would that be acceptable?

We all have an opinion but we can't know.

I'm hoping for the best. Hibs need it.

Good post Dave. Its an action I should copy as what works in my head is sometimes different to how my words are interpreted by others.

The Dyspraxic community to which I belong have a saying "I always mean what I say but I rarely say what I mean".

I used the phrases "SPL-experienced" and "home grown" in posts recently and half a dozen posters misread my sentiments as Racist or Xenophobic. I'm the diametric opposite of a racist.

We aren't always responsible for every instance of misreading and misrepresentation. However, as soon as it's clear that our threads have mis-fired, deletion is the best option.
