View Full Version : What will the new manager have to have achieved by New Year to continue in the job?

The new manager is going to need to get off to a flying start, and with at least some time on his side to put a squad of his own liking together backed by the BK’s, where does he need to be at New Year to ensure he is given the full season?
A top 6 placing at the very least?
Ideally 3rd or 4th?
A derby win?
Entertaining football?
A result against Old Firm?
League Cup latter stages?
Without those targets being reached the rumblings for change and discontent will resurface and we go again. It’s a tough environment for a manager to be coming into, but they all know how modern football works. They have to put a winning team on the park from the word go and forget about long term builds.
I wouldn’t mind a winning team though, so hopefully we can get the right man this time round.

New Year? He'll get as long as THAT? Wow!

By new year I’d say top 6 as a minimum. If it’s starting to look like we might miss out then they’ll rightfully be under serious pressure. Top 6 for Hibs should be a non negotiable.
After that, it absolutely has to be getting out of the league cup groups, and draw dependant, progressing further.
Throw in a bit of decent football and a couple of ‘statement results’, such as derby win/Old Form win or a draw with an exciting performance and I think they’d be fine.

Bottom six should be instant dismissal. It's unacceptable. Unless we lose to a highland league team in the cup or Hearts scud us 7-0 that should be the main reason for a sacking.

Any Hibs manager who fails to make top six should be sacked.

Just appear to be semi competent.
There seems a thing at the moment that the fans are being unreasonable and shouldn’t keep sacking managers etc
Montgomery won 4 league games since 9th of December!!! That is a joke. We’re not being unreasonable wanting better than that
A manager needs time, but he should also show signs he knows what he’s doing and can get a tune out of them

Don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect pretty much all of that. We need to have bare minimums we work too

As a starter we need to be competitive with the likes of Kilmarnock, Dundee and St Mirren. I’d personally like to see signs that the players will run about a bit more, pass the ball forward and be a bit more organised defensively. My expectations are really low.

Just need a manager who looks like he knows what he is doing, how he sets team up, how he reacts to situations during games, subs etc, making us hard to beat foremost, if that is happening then we will be in top 6, then we for from there....steady progress, and by end of season we are playing good football and not beinar touch anymore, no predictions of finishing third.....just improving season by season, this mess till take two seasons to sort out....

Not good enough. The treble followed up by a thrashing of Man City in the CL final. Anything less than a 4 goal margin and he should be out the door.
On a serious more grown up note, what we need is to see promise that the manager actually has some idea of what he's doing. Tactical consistency, getting the players to work their hardest under his leadership. A team that plays to the final whistle with a clear instruction plan on when to attack and when to defend. If he gets that right, then the league placement will take care of itself. We don't need to be magnificent, we just have to be good enough that he's able to buy himself enough time to improve things further down the line.

Make us worth watching again simple as that.
If he does the results will take care of themselves.

At the very least some semblance of defensive organisation and the ability to see out a game without the inevitable last minute and injury time panics that cost goals.

That’ll only change with new defenders though. A major priority this summer.
