Talk on Twitter this past day that the Crawford Bridge is to close.
That'll make games against certain teams fun if we're sharing Albion Road together.

SA are all over the place now, loads of good clubs/places etc in the town got knocked down to build them. Might be in a minority here but more students kicking about is not what I want to be seeing, Edinburgh is crawling with them as it is. So, pretty boring if what Bingo said is true, another historic bit in Edinburgh to be potentially replaced with SA 🥱🥱🥱

You don't think that building expensive accomodation means Universities can enrol more students, do you?

Is it closing permanently, or is it just for maintenance?

Some council jobsworth has probably noticed a bit of rust on the steel or a bolt missing.
Once it’s been deem unsafe nobody is ever going to reverse that decision and it will be closed for ever more.

It’s going to cause chaos with the segregation of fans.

We’ll just have to lock the away fans in for a bit, or send them down Sainsburys way

I think you'll find that because the regulations around building student accommodation* are so much less onerous than building standard housing so they are much cheaper to build and quicker to throw up.
* We're actually almost at the time of year where the students have all gone home. These accommodations will, for the next few months, be for the Councils darlings - the tourists.

We could lock the Huns and the Gunts in long enough for the Spetsnaz to review the CCT for vandalism, naughty songs and racial stuff and then nick the culprits on site. We could stop the need for court appearances by birching them before they leave and then..........sorry, getting a tad carried away there.

Great, we can lock Sevco, Celtic and Hearts in after 70 minutes in that case for 30 mins after full time.
Building student accommodation doesn't increase the amount of students in the city. It actually provides a vital public service.
Example. Both my laddies are born and bred Edinburgh but their Maw met and married a Perth lad and were schooled in Crieff. However when it became time to study, they both chose Edinburgh unis.
Private accommodation in Edinburgh is a complete ripoff. The odd nice landlord exists but most exist to squeeze exorbitant rents from parents. And dont talk to me about deposts, thats another scam.
The sooner every student can be housed in good quality, reasonably priced accommodation - the better!

My last firm worked on a 70 student studio flats and they cost £330 a week to rent at Lower Gilmore Place. So hardly affordable.
On the segregation issue, is there not a big wall barrier on the corner at the old Albion bar.

Really sad if it does close permanently. Not sure there is anything concrete to say it is. It does give the club the perfect opportunity to make sure away fans are the first to be inconvenienced if segregation is required. Less of the send them Sainsburys way that is where I park

Inconvenience the away fans at the expense of home ones? Hah, like that'll ever happen! (except at every ground in the country except Easter Road)

Edinburgh Council are planning some works on the Bridge of Doom.
‘The Council is planning refurbishment works on Crawford Bridge this summer to carry out structural steel repairs and repainting (colour suggestions welcome https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t57/1/16/1f609.png).
‘The bridge is used as an exit route for away fans coming out of Hibs' stadium at Easter Road and so the work will be carried out between football seasons starting on a date to be confirmed in June.’

This is true. Examples being Mayfield Road being closed northbound for over two years so they can construct hideous ‘student’ flats on a postage stamp. Then the demolition of Northfield House to construct ‘student’ flats far away from any University or College. It would appear that planning regulations are waived when a construction company says they are building flats for students. It will be interesting to see how many are used for their intended purpose. I also find it odd that despite Edinburgh having a housing emergency this appears to be the predominant construction project at this time.

Yes. The flats are totally out of keeping with existing buildings in the area and should never have been allowed. I cannot imagine that an application for normal flats would have been approved. Particularly when you see how many problems they have encountered during construction and the impact on the neighbouring properties.

I suppose in a very general sense the location is logical in that it's right next to the KB, however, it's a tiny footprint and I'd imagine building over the burn must have come with significant problems too. The road being closed for two years as well.....jeez!

Definitely. Because they restricted the flow of the burn it caused flooding on Craigmillar Park GC. Works carried out on the golf course form part of the flood defences for the Braid Burn, so the construction impacted on that. When you take in the problems they have had with methane gas emissions and archaeological finds, you have to wonder how any of it was allowed.

That closure for that length of time is a disgrace. One of the main arterial routes into the city. Looks like the new structure going up is just starting too (there is one phase completed and now has students) it will be a long time before the road opens northbound.
When the railway was operational then it would have been a rail initiative to maintain the bridge. Obviously that line has been unused for a good number of years, I wonder who has responsibility for it's maintenance now
