Quote on EEN website, from Doncaster … “We issued an ITT (invitation to tender) about two weeks ago to various broadcasters and we’ve had a couple of rounds of bidding. We’re working through that. They’ll be decent games involving Rangers and Celtic, the Edinburgh derby.”

I’d be curious what others than the rangers and celtic fans - and to a lesser extent also excluding our fans and those on the other side of the city, as we were clearly both quoted as second best - thought about being considered as not included in his description “decent games”, by someone so prominent in promoting the games of the clubs they support.

Scottish football and ALL those that “run” it … omg. When will they be changed? That’s the fundamental question that underlies all that is wrong in our football.

It’s selling an extra batch of games outside of the Sky deal.

It’s selling an extra batch of games outside of the Sky deal.. 60 Sky games next year plus another 20 out for bidding. Plus 5 PPV games per club. Lots of live football but not to the benefit of 3pm on a Saturday games

So more money for the prize pool but perhaps a negative effect on gates.

I laughed the other day when someone said it’s good Dundee United are back up and we have a Dundee derby and a “new firm” derby to look forward to watching. They won’t be on the telly but I suppose these additional games might be for the best of the rest games like those and the Edinburgh derby that Sky don’t really care about.

That they thought they’d get to watch those games on tv

I would absolutely pay for a Scottish Premiership TV deal that specifically excluded games involving Celtic or Rangers.

I listened to Donkey Doncaster on the radio talking about this on Saturday. That's what he said. Basically Sky going up to 60 games. 20 extra games being tendered. Sky haven't bid for those extra 20 but could have if they wanted. Sky will first get first dibs on what matches they pick before whichever broadcaster wins the extra 20. Reading between the lines he sounded annoyed Sky had rarely picked up some of the bigger non-OF related games, e.g. the Derby and this deal might resolve that. Of course with extra games themselves, Sky might actually pick the derby now.

For once, I felt sorry for him as Michael Stewart (and to a lesser extent English) berated him to say who had bid for the rights, given they surely must have realised he would be bound by commercial confidentiality. It was so transparent that Michael Stewart was trying to angle to find out if he'd need to woo any more broadcasters for work given he's pretty much on them all at the moment.

As an aside, also in that interview, it sounds like Doncaster isn't a fan of VAR and didn't want it introduced in the first place.

Also interesting that there seems to be one body doing the leg work on sponsorship for all of Scottish football now, rather than the SPFL, SFA, SWPL, etc. doing everything themselves. He said it was a Ron Gordon idea.
