View Full Version : Media view vs. hibs.net view

I was quite confused by the difference between the above views on yesterday's game. The media (ie John Robertson on Radio Scotland, Sportscene last night, newspaper reports this morning) were all of one mind: Hibs looked good going forward but can't defend. However, on the hibs.net match thread - and other threads since - folk who were there were slaughtering the team, some saying players had given up in the second half.

So which was it? Clearly defensively we were inept as always (another ridiculous two goals given away), but was the rest of the performance bad (a la hibs.net) or decent (a la media)?

These are the days when I miss Johnny Boy's sensible and fair reports.

The defending at our club is as bad as I can ever remember, who ever comes in needs to throw everything at that defence. We can have all the forward talent we want, but one slight bit of pressure and we implode at the back.

I think the consensus on here matches the media you mention. We’ve got ability in attack, dreadful at defending.

I would tend to go with the media, experienced views and experienced players, unbiased (look at your JR example) praising us, but it's comlplete meltdown city on here from any old radge! (i'm as guilty as anyone).

I thought they were watching a different game. There were plenty chances, I suppose but the game was littered with mistakes and poor play. Hibs were - aside from a good opening twenty minutes - brutal.

I can only guess that it was more entertaining for the neutral.

If you were at the game yesterday as a neutral, I don’t think you’d say anything too dissimilar to Robertson did on the radio. You’d have thought it was a good game, you’d have thought Hibs could have won but you’d also realise we made big mistakes that cost us.

The difference is we watch us every week. We lost a late goal to a stupid mistake. A couple of weeks after we lost a 94th minute goal in a game we should have won. Which was a week after we lost to a crap team who only had two shots on goal, one of them which was late in the game.

I’ve not seen too much said after yesterday which I’d deem to be unbalanced to be honest.

How long have we been saying that?!

It’s such fine lines in football, we win that match 9 times out of ten if we played it again. Unfortunately like always we sold the jerseys.

The thing that really irritates me is that we know those same players responsible for the errors are prone to selling the jerseys and yet those players are back in the starting line up again the next week.

Why can’t we identify the problem and drop those players?
Give players from the youth team or development squad a chance from now until the end of the season.
It’s time to be ruthless with players who aren’t upto the job.

Would the media be saying it was a decent performance if we were Rangers or Celtic? Would they f**
They would have a full postmortem and say Hibs were in a total crisis

I don’t think we win that match 9 times out of 10.

I think we are exactly where we are in the league as I’ve watched that type of match so many times and the outcome is inevitable.

Similar players making similar mistakes at both ends of the pitch with poor decision making.

It was another typical Hibs performance and the exact performance we need to get away from( less mistakes and finish game off after 1-0) if we are to progress as a club.

We don’t win that game 3 times out of 10, never mind 9 times.

Especially a neutral 😐 who would be wanting us to lose

I haven’t read anywhere but here accusations of players not caring or throwing in the towel.

The media view up here is nowhere near the level of down south so in my view it's pretty much worthless.

The only clubs that really get any scrutiny are the uglies and any opinion offered by the 'experts' outside of them is pretty much pissing in the wind.

For example, Chris Sutton before the ER derby was claiming Hibs fans were loving the scintillating football played under NM. He'd clearly not watched minute of us all season.

The best analysts of all Scottish clubs is teh terrace podcast. They all put the work in.
