He's here!

I suspect this has already been mentioned but Spoony has quietly put together a pretty remarkable career for a player who has played only with smaller clubs than Hibs since leaving us.

In addition to being a very decent, dependable young player for Hibs, he's since won two Scottish Cups, a League Cup and now a Championship medal. Add to that a World Cup appearance for Canada and numerous European appearances...well done to him.

Great achievements, very good career and deserved successes.

For what it's worth he was a player I rated and was sad to see go.

Yeah, he's had a good career. The best of any player that has been moved on from Hibs.
In an alternative universe he could have had a long career at Hibs and Stevenson could have been the one with a career at a smaller club.

Always like Wotherspoon. I felt he was treated pretty badly by Fenlon, when, from memory, he had a big impact in the semi final v Falkirk. Technical player who could have been a stalwart in a central midfield role. Was very pleased he got his first Scottish cup winners medal, less so with the next one

Never got a fair crack at it here, couldn't find a position that suited and the best thing he did was move on.

A very gifted player and had an excellent career.

I never understood why he was left out the 2013 final squad. I doubt he would have been the difference as we were massively outclassed. However our bench that day was Murdoch, Stevenson, Robertson, Handling and Caldwell. I don't believe he wasn't a better option than 2 or 3 of them. He'd scored the winner in the final league game only a week before. He would certainly have been a better option the following season compared to some of the utter dross we had to endure. He was off winning cups whilst we were getting relegated.

Always seems a decent sort and has forged a very good career for himself.

Don't think I've ever celebrated a goal as much as his winner against Hearts to knock them out the cup in 2012/13. Was knackered after it. The East stand was absolute carnage.

He exploded with the unadulterated joy of a child on scoring that one.

Another confidence player that was given a hard time IMO by elements of the support that got frustrated with him and his consistency. Some things never change.

Bare in mind that he is from bridge of earn so the perth saints are his hometown club.

Spoony married into a strong Hibs family, has major Hibs allegiance, despite Perthshire roots.

I'm pretty sure there's stories and photos of him in the Hibs end at the 2016 Cup Final?

He could've easily been the next Stevenson and Hanlon if things had worked out slightly different. A good player at this level but not quite good enough to make the step up.

He's gotten the most out of his ability and can have no regrets. Every move he's made has worked out well. I'm happy for him.

Can't help feel that Josh Campbell is the new David Wotherspoon.

Come through the ranks.

Quality player.

Totally unappreciated by a section of the support.

A good all round player that had he been surrounded by better quality he’d probably have stayed for longer than he did.
Unfortunately he went off the boil and ended up having to move on to further his career.

Always liked him, although the one big thing he lacked was real pace. Plenty skill and all the other attributes but you need pace to play in a top side.

Given an even harder deal by Fenlon, who dropped him from the squad and put him in the stand for the 2 Cup Finals v hearts and Celtic
I’ve spoken to David about this a few times, about Fenlon short changing him, and he thanked me for saying this

Hmm. Not so sure. Campbell isn't a quality player at this level. He has quite a few flaws in his game.

And lots of positives that you seem to forget about

He looked strong and hungry when he came on at Perth last week, and lifted the performance of the team

I don't forget about his positives at all. He works hard and scores goals from midfield. His passing and general play is not great though. Decision making is woeful at times.

It seems to be the case that players who come through the youth system and play regularly for the first team (a rare achievement in itself) but aren't good enough for a big money move often get a hard time from some fans.

Like goal scoring midfielders are pretty easy to find like.

He will win me over quite easily if he improves his all round game.

Scoring goals and being poor at most other things has been quite easy to find for us actually. Mallan was exactly the same.

Scoring goals is great but the boy can’t pass which is a pretty major flaw. He came on against Motherwell when we needed fresh legs to see out the win in and he attempted 8 passes, only finding a Hibs player once, that is truly awful for a midfielder.

Correct, didn't make the bench, can't recall if he'd picked up an injury but he was struggling for form at that time.

Great wee player who was totally mismanaged by Yogi - all started at Ibrox for some inexplicable reason he played him at right back and he got rinsed. Thereafter he played nearly every position other than keeper and centre half - even recall he played up front one game at Tannadice. Delighted he’s had a great career 👍 when he was a youth player he was one of the few who would take part in various community visits and projects - top lad 👍

Liked Wotherspoon, he was a good, hardworking player and goal scorer, who was for some reason often played out of position, but making comments about Campbell should have nothing to do with this thread.

He’s played 100 matches, often in an attacking midfield role, law of averages says he’d have picked up some assists and decent passes in that time. Still doesn’t make him a good passer of the ball. He’s a hard worker, good finisher, but he’s not a great passer of the ball at all. Wotherspoon is a much better passer of the ball than Campbell.

Edit: just for clarity, I’m agreeing with MWHibbies post

If you could mix the ability and quality of Spoony with the athleticism and energy of Josh you likely have an outstanding player

maybe if the footballers at the club had the attitude of Josh we not be in this mess.

Why do we seem to have to find away if fear and hating our own players that come up through the ranks - this isn’t aimed at you just something that does irk me - is it jealousy of supporters that tried and failed to make the grade in the game?

Who hates the guy? Never seen him get any personal abuse.

He has a great attitude, and still isn't good enough. Who has a bad attitude at the club?
