I tend to agree - and the rationale is you want to get the runners running and keeping us in the game going into the final quarter

At that point you bring on the matchwinner, Emiliano, as space opens up, while giving NMW a rest (having told him "go run yourself into the ground for 65-70mins")

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest odd games where someone like Newell might miss out given the options we now have.

I’d go with a 3 in the middle definitely including NMW & Triantis. Both better either defensively or athletically, IMO, than Newell & Emiliano. It’s then a toss up between Newell & Emiliano. Do we go more solid with Newell, at the expense of Emiliano’s creative quality or hope Emiliano can win us the game with the two behind him doing his dirty work.

He’d be on the bench. But in reality, he will be in the first 11 as captain. I’d prefer the energy and defensive qualities that NMH and Triantis bring. With Marcondes as AM.

Very tough one for Monty. Some managers struggle at times like this by trying to fit certain players back into the team

Last game was the best we’ve played, at least the first half, for a very long time.

No one that started that game deserves dropped.

But Boyle, Miller and potentially Vente back. Pressure to at least start Boyle.

Get what people are saying about Youan defensively, but we also want to win the game and imo he’s one of our biggest threats. Triantis or Moriah Welsh in the midfield with Newell will also help plug gaps. I would also say Boyle isn’t great defensively.

Moriah Welsh or Triantis is also a big decision. Both deserve to start but only space for one with Newell and Marcondes certainties. Moriah Welsh brings alot more energy but Triantis gives the stability as he’ll sit.

Tell you something though, it’s nice having good options for a change.

There are a few posters above debating which central midfielder misses out if we play a 3, like it’s an easy decision.

Truth is, we’ve got 4 CM’s of 1 type or another who have got a very strong claim to be in the team and tbh no real business to be missing out - and this formation provides a solution that gets them all involved.

Oh I really like that. But the manager picks the team and tactics and gets the glory or sack for doing that job so I'm generally content to leave it to see what he comes up with.

Triantis is huge in this game IMO - if he can be aware when the full backs have committed forward and be ready to drop into the back line then we will be fine. I I would rather that Obita and Cadden were bold and looked to give their wide atrackers a bit of work defensively and that Tavernier wasn’t able to get forward much either.
