If ever you needed an example as to how much the National broadcaster wants to sweep this under the carpet then there you have it. The failure to even mention the S word never mind discuss it couldn’t have been clearer.

If I were Hibs I’d target the BBC as well on the back of last nights statement. **** them all. Proper siege mentality required, an all out offensive on anyone and everyone who we a have cast iron perception of being against us. Scottish football is a tree that needs shaken, for decades now it has been heavily favoured towards the Glasgow two and its high time the SFA, the government and our pathetic media were called out for it. Hopefully with BKFC’s millions we will have the wherewithal to hand out a good few bloody noses on the park as well. This is our time.

They are as complicit as those that sing. Failure to report or even upset those in the west have been plain and clear for years.

As others have mentioned we are acting and if they don’t like it, doesn’t to report it correctly then it’s clear who they pander too!

Chris McLaughlin made comment of sectarian chanting by Rangers fans in his report of a game at Easter Road in 2015, which was met by such fury within Ibrox his media facilities at both Ibrox and Murray Park were withdrawn.

The BBC then opted to stand in solidarity with McLaughlin by refusing to send any BBC reporters to Ibrox, and the dispute raged on for seven years before it was eventually resolved when Rangers lifted the reporting restrictions on McLaughlin.

The BBC are obviously tip-toeing round using certain phrases in case they reopen an old dispute, and could explain why they’re choosing their words carefully at this time.

It really is a ridiculous state of affairs.

Watched the BBC evening news and was utterly flabbergasted. The initial presenter, in her intro to the program mentioned sectarianism.
The actual article gave brief mention of Hibs intention to reduce allocation for “some”‘visiting supporters. The presenter then went on to say that Hibs acknowledge that our own fans have not behaved well recently.
The presentation then went on to highlight examples of bad behaviour:

Hibs supporters throwing missiles at Tynecastle
Hibs supporters causing damage to seats at Fir Park
And a picture of anonymous supporters letting off flares. (Hard to tell but may have been the the rangers supporters but looked generic)

If ever the idiots amongst our support need a demonstration on the damage they do to our club ability to make change this was a very good example.

As fir the BBC, they are a disgrace.

Spot on. The issue is the power wielded by the OF. You may not agree with the BBC being timid, but you can understand why they might be. Same with SFA.

That said, the only way to defeat bullies is to stand up to them. So more power to the Club and I hope Hearts, Aberdeen and others choose to stand shoulder-to-shoulder. We shall see ...

Thoughts, why are Sky Sport allowed to promote sectarian singing every week on their platform, should they not be warning viewers that at times they may hear offensive singing during these games, rather than commentators saying the fans are bringing a great atmosphere to the game, Sky themselves know about the singing hence the volume being turned down at times when certain songs are being belted out but most of the time we just get it non stop.

I would LOVE to watch an old firm derby where neither support sang about religion or bigotry. Wall to wall sweetie wrapper rustling. They'd get a fortune off Werthers to sponsor it.

And that's the nub of it. Without the bigotry they're just two big clubs in a fishpond. Nothing remotely special.

I think you in particular Silver have mentioned the volume/mikes being turned down when certain songs are being sung!

Yeah they know but again who is watching?? I might suggest that your average viewer down south will not have a clue what they are singing (some with allegiances might) about so they won’t know. Most will be of a certain persuasion so will be more than happy and will probably belt it out in their living room or boozer. Do they care as long as they have subscribers…… I would say no. So Sky should be mentioning this during the commentary but choose not to.

I pay it because across the board, when you lift your head away from local politics etc, it's still the best broadcaster in the world. Other countries would love to have something as intelligent as the BBC as their main state broadcaster. yes it has problems, plenty, but it still gives amazing value for money for those of us interested in the world at large, and it's fantastic nature programs, which really are the best in the world.

It’s like the 2nd world war where the US was fighting for freedom and to save the Jews who were getting slaughtered but they treated black people in their forces as low life .

It’s the same here with the SFA, SPFL and the BBC et al, happy to be abhorred by anything said against black people, gay people, Muslims but hey anything against catholics (in Rangers case) and Protestants (in Celtic’s case) is a case of “move on - nothing to see here”

Only in Scotland- pathetic isn’t just the start of it🤬

A more balanced view but even then he feels the need to caveat it by talking about songs that many thought were confined to the 70s and 80s which we all know is absolute nonsense as these songs have never gone away.

McLaughlin will be aware that the BBC have only just been allowed back into Ibrox a couple of seasons ago and will no doubt have been given strict editorial guidelines around any comments he makes about The Rangers. From a personal career point of view he will also be fully aware of what happened to BBC pundits like Graham Spiers, Jim Spence and Michael Stewart when they spoke out against bigotry. Stewart was eventually let back into the BBC fold and it'll be interesting what he says about Hibs stance.

Maybe they’ve changed it but the article looks pretty balanced to me and emphasises the sectarian issue a number of times. The headline/sub headers will be written and changed by the editorial team not the journalists.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-68549775

The key thing now is what other non-OF clubs do …
The issue was never the article which appeared after he was on Reporting Scotland, it was was his complete and utter failure to mention the word sectarianism when he was on tele, he seemed to focus mainly on pyros which missed the point - deliberately

Probably not his fault as others have said.
The news is usually read from a script.

If it’s read solely off a script why get him to read it out and not the reporter who does the rest of the news

Immaterial anyway the issue is the BBC completely swerving any discussion of anything deemed sectarian on their main news show

Not sure about that, I think these guys have a measure of editorial control to frame a story the way they see fit, It was bizarre how (in my opinion) he chose to do it, but as others subsequently pointed out, he has been on the sharp end of some blowback in the past. This AND the overall BBC's reluctance to tackle the Hun full on behind this

Made sure it got a mention online at least:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/hibernian

It’s also noticeable that the ‘have your say’ feature wasn’t active, what are they afraid of? I think we know the answer to that.

What we really need is an independent journalist or a high profile member of the footballing fraternity to highlight the BBC’s behaviour over this.

I give you; Pat Nevin. Hibs fan. History of speaking out against sectarianism (started supporting us after he became sick of sectarian chanting from Celtic, his fathers club). Very visible at the BBC (did the Five Live radio commentary with John Murray of Liverpool Man City at the weekend). Intelligent and eloquent. kudos as an ex-player. Probably doesnt want the hassle, theres about 1690 reasons not to, but you never know, his emails address is easily accessible...

It mightn’t be the biggest shock if Alex Thomson’s ears pricked up, should this story gain any further traction over the coming weeks.

I should hope they make some good nature programmes, considering the amount of money they extort out of people with threat of prosecution. Even the old age pensioners aren't safe.

If the BBC is so great, let people opt out and lets see how many continue to pay for it! State media isn't for me.

Channel 4 journalist. English chap, picked upon the whole Rangers ceasing to exist story and was prepared to go where Scottish journalists wouldn’t / couldn’t.

It may be worthwhile trying to get onto the various football phone-ins and specifically mention sectarianism. May not get onto BBC Scotland but Robbie Savage/Chris Sutton's phone in on Five Live may be worth a shout. Mind you, as an ex Celtc player, Sutton may ignore it

Alex Thomson.

Also on the receiving end of threats from members of Scottish media.

David Leggat (ex Daily Record) springs to mind.

So if the singing was anti semitic, anti Muslim, anti black or anti LGBTQ could you imagine the uproar but sectarian, well that's just normal in Scotland, nothing to get excited about. The cancer Scottish football has to live with.
More accurate to say , chosen to live with .What would be interesting to know is who really is pulling the strings when it comes to not being prepared to tackle Sectarianism within Football Just panning it off with comments like it’s a Societal Issue

It was interesting that BBC Radio Scotland chose to have a phone in debate this morning about racist comments made by a Tory party donator. Legitimate enough but I am just wondering when Kay Adams will have a similar phone in dedicated to racial and sectarian attitudes in Scottish football?

Kind of sounds a bit like The Nolan Show on BBC Radio Ulster!

The BBC don’t shy away from controversial topics in NI (although you could argue that the presenter does like to stoke the fires to ensure lively phone lines for the morning radio show) so no real reason why BBC Scotland should be shying away from such topics.

Today's drive - and yes we really should know better-was like something out of a situation comedy where pundit parodies of themselves tried to outdo their own caricatures.

Going through there's loads of nonsense about the symbiotic relationship between journalists and players/managers with McIntyre telling Tam Cowan that journalists work hand in glove with football people to get them publicity or even mentioned to clubs in relation to getting contracts/jobs. They said the unsaid bit out loud.

However, on the way back Michael Stewart and Kevin-if-i-were-chocolate-id-eat-myself-Thomson tried to outdo each other in a cranky parody of themselves. Thomson constantly going on about young managers not getting a break whilst Stewart pushed Jack Ross and Neil Lennon for the Sheep job.
They both love the sound of their own voice but this was toe curlingly childish stuff. Ego v Ego.

Biscuits and Mikey Stewart having a right old fight.
Mikey saying weve seen progress and Monty deserves time.
Biscuits has seen no improvement and should be sacked if we finish bottom six.
Tom English takes Biscuits side, while mentioning weve been poorly treated by VAR.

I do sometimes think they play assigned roles, copying some of the views they read from posters on here.
