Dundee's defeat today means that they now overtake Hibs as the top flight team with longest gap between Scottish Cup wins.
They last won it in 1910 and won't get another shot til 2025
Some days you just have to take any wee positives

Add that to a bigly team who haven’t won the LC for 61 years would ordinarily mean that the media would be all over it ad nausea like they were with our SC record - but no, nothing - so why the eff not ☹️

An interesting fact indeed but not if you are a DFC fan - their greatest triumph in recent years was in 1986 when they beat a team that had already won the league .

I think we were fair game. It’s not as if Dundee have either been in the top flight as much as us or in as many semi finals or finals., I’d find it a bit weird if it was brought up to be honest.

Dundee nowhere near as big a club as Hibs so their drought will go largely unnoticed. Not as if they've been in loads of finals or won a few league cups in the last few decades during their SC run.

Hearts League cup drought is far more embarrassing.

Probably because we got to so many semis and finals.

:agree:

That’s probably why ours became such a big deal, because we get to Hampden fairly frequently and blow it.

I'm 58 year old - Dundee have not had even a half decent team in my lifetime. I always think of them as being even worse (better?) underachievers than Hibs - I can't even think of one decent player that they've had - I don't think Canniggia counts.

I concede that they were a very good team in my lifetime that were better than the uglies. Perversely it makes their underachieving ever since worse

I'm almost as old as you. A lot is made of Dundee being a big club but when was the last time that was really the case? Nowhere near as big as Hibs imo so not sure it's comparable. That said United and St Johnstone have had a lot more success than them.

That said United and St Johnstone have had a lot more success than them.I`m 64 and my first Hibs game was in the late 60s but I`m still too young to remember Dundee`s big wins in Europe or their big players like Alan Gilzean but I do remember they had a big support well into the 1970s . Brought huge supports to ER when we played them in the cup twice in the 70s ( far more mini Hunnish than the Hearts support of the same period ) and had a much bigger support than their neighbours . In the first season after the top division was reduced from 18 to 10 clubs Dundee were relegated while Aberdeen and DU stayed up on goal difference . I don`t think they ever recovered from that especially as Dundee United soon had the best years of their history and started gaining support in Dundee and area . Dundee were so big that players like George Stewart and Gordon Strachan signed for them . DU also signed a lot of top players from Edinburgh like Paul Hegarty . Dunfermline were also a big club in the 70s

Alfie Boyd, Alan Gilzean, Billie Steel, and a goalie who went to Tottenham. All good players in my time.

Gordon Smith as well of course won the League with them

Remember them having a big support in the seventies and some great players Bobby Robinson John Duncan Jocky Scott Bobby Ford Gordon Wallace George Stewart and Thomson Allan

One great Scottish Cup tie at Easter Road springs to mind 1973-74 3-3 and they scudded us 3-0 in the replay

More recently I remember being escorted from the Stadium at 0-4 after 25 minutes ( it’s a long story ) after the mongoose and the cobra ripped us a new one 😀

It was mentioned because we got close a lot and because people expected us to have won it. No one thinks that about Dundee or even the likes of Killie or Motherwell who have won it far more recently than the former.

Nobody is realistically fancying Dundee to win the Scottish Cup any time soon.

Even if they did, it wouldn’t come remotely close to the impact of ours.

In that glorious few minutes of injury time in 2016 we ruined for many what was the most popular of tropes in Scottish Football, but at the same time, created one of its greatest stories.

Never ever forget how hard that is for many in Scotland to have to accept.

Of course they did. Every year, every tie Hibs played they were ravenous at the thought of Hibs going out.

It wasn't just the media, a rival supports song book was 90% about us not winning it.

A disappointing lack of respect for Dundee FC here.

Ok, they’ve not had much to shout about in recent decades but since they’ve won that cup they’ve won the league, reached a European semi final and had stacks of good players.

Plenty of great Dundee fans in that area, especially given the fact they had to live in their neighbours’ shadow for a while there. I had a wee soft spot for them when I lived up that way and given we’ve seen a few clubs of similar size or smaller get their hands on silverware in recent years, I can think of worse things than seeing a bit of dark blue exuberance on that Hampden pitch (assuming Hibs’ elimination as a result of a Champions League fixture pile up).

Whilst they’re obviously not as big a club as Hibs it is a bit weird that nothing is really made of the fact they’ve not won the cup for 114 years, do see a few Utd fans on Twitter each yeah with the 1910 never again stuff but that’s about it. Considering the grief we got, albeit mainly from the Gorgie tramps
