View Full Version : Forfar game in any doubt?

A low of minus 7C tonight in Forfar, and minus 4C tomorrow night. Looks to thaw a bit by Saturday, with a high of 6C, but a rainy day is expected. What sort of shape will all of this leave the Station Park surface in?

We had quite a bit of snow up here late yesterday afternoon so it will depend on what protection they have used.

I know the daft as they come (but top guy) Forfar groundsman from my football days. I’ve messaged him for an update. I will share what he says on here.

Rain & higher temps forecast for Friday and Saturday (a balmy 6 degrees at kick off) so that allied with it being an astro pitch means the game should be fine.

I wouldn't object to another Hibs-free weekend. My sense of wellbeing is far greater when they're not playing.

You need to give it up like. Don’t know if you continually post this type of stuff for a laugh or if it’s genuine, I think it’s the latter, but if Hibs make you that miserable then just do something else.

Know there have been issues with other clubs recently but do Forfar not have an artificial pitch or have I imagined it
Looking forward to travelling on the bus on Saturday, did it in the 70’s and 80’s last 20 odd years any away travel has been in the car.:flag:

It's genuine. Hibs are certainly no laughing matter right now.

I'm not at the stage blackpoolhibs is at in stating that nothing in life makes him more miserable than Hibs, but I'm sure plenty on here would agree there's a calmness to a weekend when you don't have the Hibs score to concern you.

In the 80s we were largely absolute pants - especially the early years - but I went to every game and whilst I got well hacked off when we lost I still couldn’t get enough of it.

Cumulative disappointment over many years has now got me to the stage of actually looking forward to a free weekend or a few weeks of a break. I thought that after supporting them all my life I would have been able to get over defeats and continuous underachievement (especially against the Poppy Thieves) by now but it doesn’t get any better.

I really get why people look forward to a break and a few people I know dread a derby - not enough happiness from these games and it pains me.

But I can’t help but loving the club and I will never stop doing so or watching them 😁 It’s in my blood and it will go to my grave with me.

It’s 0C in Forfar just now, with temperatures due to drop to -3C again overnight, creeping up to 1C by 6am tomorrow. I suspect that might delay the removal of the snow and covers…

What would be the earliest decision time in terms of knowing if the pitch is unplayable? We were heading up early and planning to make a day of it.

And an army of braziers to provide a bit heat.

In today's world, Health and Safety and the environmentalists would frown upon such an act.

If it's going to be be 6C at kick off time, I can't see the game being called off.

More importantly, what's the chances of a rammy on the terracing if people bring their brollies?

I seem to remember that being a quite heated topic of discussion before the game at Cowdenbeath

If it’s an artificial surface there is no chance this game will be off because of that.
Brush the snow off tomorrow and temperatures well above freezing overnight Friday into Saturday. Balmy temperatures on Saturday. These surfaces are never off due to rain. It’s ice that’s the killer.

Do artificial pitches have undersoil heating?

If temps are about 6 degrees can't see it being off.

I remember playing for Tamsons and having to take brush and digging fork to games in winter.
Either had to brush snow off lines or walk round pitch with fork to poke holes in puddles to let them drain.

I coach and play in Australia now and slightest bit of rain and games are called off.

You also needed to take your trainers(baseball boots) if it had been frosty. Remember playing a few games with deep puddles in the goalmouth area. They are too soft nowadays.

Yeah, can’t see this being off.

That being said, astroturf is treacherous if it’s even slightly frozen. At 6 degrees on Saturday though it should have easily thawed.
